Increase in hr/$pay for Bilingual
So being bilingual is more important and worthy of higher pay than having actual nursing skills, years in the field, and educational background?

Leaving Work / Nurse Duties Incomplete Passing To Night Shift
So we night shift nurses have to finish up day shift's work and do our tasks as well and night shift should be OK with this? Hmm...OK. God forbid a night shift nurse leaves something behind for day shift. Many times there's a free charge available(someone many times is not available at night) or a charge with max three patients during the day, why not ask for help? I understand there may be a lot more going on during the day but the flippant, "Well, I didn't get the second unit of blood started after the first unit completed at 10am because I was busy" attitude really irks me.
- Is anyone else holy crap concerned?

Older Doctor doesn't think nurses should be in charge
I hope she knows that there are people who don't think women should be doctors. She needs to just stay in her lane, shut up and just be a doctor or retire.

"My pain is about an eight and a half"
How about the ones who say their pain level is a 20? I just tell them the scale is from 1-10 like I mentioned. We have no pain meds for a 20 pain level.

mixing pain medications with a flush
I dilute narcotics and benzos with 5cc's of NS in a 10cc syringe. When the patient asks me why, I tell them because the drug is very potent and they can potentially go into respiratory failure and that death is a lot worse than pain.

Old nurse won't retire
Maybe this job is what keeps Barbara going. Please leave her alone. It's not up to you to decide what she should do with her life tbh. If management feels she's unfit and wants to terminate her or force her into retirement, it's up to them. I've come across quite a few older, retired nurses, who have come back in one capacity or another because nursing is all they've ever known and have no idea what to do with themselves otherwise. :)

How do you deal with dizziness and syncope?
Make sure the bed alarm is on. No, seriously.

Outrageous Complaints
- Patient wanting to change rooms because he didn't like the way the blinds were "rustling". Which I found strange considering there wasn't any kind of breeze or wind in his room whatsoever. - Patient wanting me to share her meds with her husband. - Patient requesting exactly 15 pillows on her bed because that's what she uses at home. - Patient reported my coworker for not providing her with a sandwich at one in the morning. Meanwhile, the patient's blood sugar was in the 500s and my coworking was busy getting orders to try to lower her blood sugar.

Is it hard finding a job after graduating?
Yes, it's extremely hard unless you have a good contact that can get you into a hospital setting. I had to go across country to get a job. I said it once and I will say it again, hospitals would rather have a "nursing shortage" and work their experienced staff to death than to take a chance or spend the money training new grads.

Best thing about being a nurse?
The best thing is being able to use my critical thinking skills on a regular basis in order to help my patients.

Med/Surg nurses - how much psych do you see?
Regular hospitals units, chiefly, ED, ICU, and Med-surg units are turning into babysitters for the psyche population. Not to mention the time it takes out of my shift caring for a psyche patient. Taking care of one psyche patient is like taking care of five to ten patients. This takes away from the time I need to spend with my other patients and my other responsibilities. Where I work, many times it's nothing physically wrong with the patient, only mentally. I don't mean to be insensitive but I'm getting sick of it. Politicians need to focus on building more psychiatric facilities as opposed to more prisons. They also need to address the broken mental health care system.

How long did it take you to find your first job as a new grad
It took me 18 months and I had to go out of state to get one. I got interviews here and there and sent hundreds of resumes. I used to think I was on some kind of blacklist or something.

Do you consider it helpful or not to be given a Pt’s attitude during a report?
I find it helpful. I don't like surprises. At least I know what I may be in for. However, not everyone's experiences with a given patient is the same. One nurse may tell me that the patient was horrible and when I get them, the person wasn't bad at all. Then again, I've been told a patient was great to deal with and no trouble at all, then when I'm taking care of them, the person is an absolute terror.

What do you think of 12 hour shifts
12hrs are great when the nights or days are in a row. If you're doing every other day, it's like you're on the job all week. Not fun.

How do you deal with the conflict in nursing school?
Conflict at nursing school? A classmate with an attitude? You should be so busy with studying to even care about what the next person is thinking or doing. Let it go and get back to the books. Nursing school is tough. :-/
