  1. My prereq GPA was 3.73. I basically have zero healthcare experience, except volunteering at a hospital. You should be fine! I think that the admissions people like to see a well rounded candidate (open to new cultures, etc...) so not having a 4.0 or tons of healthcare experience won't disqualify you.

Hi cassiejoy, I just saw this post, sorry. My GPA for pre-reqs is 3.73. Let me know if you have any questions:)
  3. I'm only in my second week of the nursing program so I don't have much advice for those of you apply to start Spring 2013. I just wanted to say good luck and if you have any entrance questions feel free to ask [i might even have an answer ]
  4. Yes, there is an ABSN program (at Idaho State University) located near my school as well. They look at prereq GPA, TEAS score and an interview. I was going to apply there to start in the Spring but was accepted to my school (and I wanted to start as soon as possible)
  5. My school only looks at GPA for Statistics, A&P I and II, and Chemistry along with responses to a few short essays. Oh, I go to Boise State:)
  6. I applied to Boise State (in Idaho).. for the program, I was able to apply the semester before I wanted to start.
  7. esliang, I was in a similar situation not too long ago. I graduated about a year ago with a bachelor's in Health Science, but knew that nursing was where I wanted to be. I decided to go the BSN route because of what I've also been hearing about ADNs having a harder time finding jobs. Almost all of my prereqs were covered under my bachelor's and I only had to take a few classes. As far as the issues that you've run into with the micro and physiology labs, I would say to definitely call to find out. We seem to have both taken the long way around to start nursing, but I think it will all be worth it in the end. I finished up my last prereq in the spring and I'm about to start a BSN program in a couple of weeks. Good luck!! Robyn
  8. SopranoKris, I took Human Growth & Development online and I didn't think it was that bad. I really enjoyed the material so maybe that's why:) Good luck with all of your classes!!
  9. For the program I start this fall, we have the option of taking pathophysiology before or during our first semester of the program. I chose to take it before so I wouldn't have another class piled on top of what I'm sure will be a busy schedule. I took the class online and would say that it is not the hardest class I have taken but it definitely required a lot of reading/studying/etc time. I found the material to be very interesting so spending quite a bit of time on the coursework did not bother me. Good luck in whichever route you decide!! Robyn
  10. I currently volunteer at a hospital a couple times each week. The first hospital I called seemed to be annoyed at me asking about volunteer opportunities, so I moved on. I would highly recommend volunteering! I start a BSN program next month and hope to be able to continue volunteering at least once per week. I hope you can get ahold of someone soon:)

I have heard great things about both programs... I have a previous bachelor's so I was planning to apply for ISU's accelerated BSN for the spring. Instead, I ended up getting in to the program at BSU so I will be starting in the fall:) Good luck with your decision!!
  12. Congrats!! I start a BSN program in August and just signed up for classes a couple of weeks ago. Intro to Professional Nursing Health Assessment with Lab Dosage Calculations Patient Care Skills Foundations of Nursing Care with Lab (clinicals) I am so excited to start! Good luck with your class load and getting in to nursing school:)
  13. 1) what is 'standard' to put on stethoscope id tag? i was thinking first initial, last name? i was just wondering the same thing about what to put on my stethoscope id tag. since i have a pretty common last name, i am unsure on what to put. ?? 2) if you normally wear an underwire bra, do you also wear one at work or do you opt for something more comfortable like a sports bra? sports bras really annoy me so i will not be wearing one of those! 3) glasses vs. contacts in a clinical setting. thoughts? i don't wear glasses/contacts but would imagine that glasses would be easier
  14. I think you can definitely do it!! Last Fall I had to take pharmacology, nutrition, human growth & development and advanced Spanish conversation. Just make sure you stay on top of all reading/assignments/etc and you'll do well. Good luck with your classes:D
  15. Hi blu223, I am set to start a nursing program in the Fall and was wondering if you know if that's how the whole hospital is or just the ED? I know I still have a couple of years before I will be able to look for RN jobs.. Thanks!
  16. I begin a BSN program in the Fall and was wondering the same thing. I also volunteer at a hospital, but have been considering taking a CNA course. I would love to see what experienced students/nurses have to say!!
  17. I am in a similar situation...I graduated about a year ago with a Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences. This previous degree covered all of my nursing pre-reqs except one. I've heard the same thing about my first degree helping me out, but I am only going to be starting nursing school this fall so we'll see. I decided to pursue a BSN instead (I was worried about not being able to find a job since the hospitals in my area all prefer BSNs). Though like Stephalump said, if your area is ADN friendly then go for it!!
  18. In my class, we dissected rats and got to work with a cadaver as well. I thought the rats would gross me out (that tail!!!), but it really wasn't bad at all. :) Good Luck!
  19. I start nursing school this fall too (not the same school as you though) and would just like to congratulate you:) Good Luck!!
  20. I took A&P I and microbiology at the same time, along with two other classes. I did spend a lot of time in lab and studying, but was able to manage. As long as you make sure to set aside time each day to review for A&P and micro, you should be fine; having good study buddies/lab partners to bounce ideas off was very helpful as well. Good luck!!
  21. Hi Willowita, I am in a similar situation; I have a previous Bachelors and start nursing school this Fall. As soon as I tried to sign up for pre-reqs, I was sent a notice saying that I would no longer be receiving financial aid (but I could appeal). So I went through the appeal process and actually went in to the financial aid office to make sure that I had turned in/completed everything. It took about 2-3 weeks, but I was approved! I think that, well at my school at least, as long as you know why you want to continue your education and can give a plan for completion, they will usually approve you. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
  22. Hi norvelk! I am not sure about the waiting list but if I find out anything I will post on here. Good luck!!
  23. I just finished taking A&P online...I was very worried going into it but was still able to manage an A. I think what I found the most helpful was talking through the information with a couple of classmates (I would also explain the information to my boyfriend). I think talking the concepts out in general terms helped me. I agree with sixela21--definitely make notecards!! As far as reading everything, I honestly skimmed the pages and highlighted sections that I would go back to for clarification. Good luck in your class and I'm sure you can do it!!
  24. Congrats!!! I'm sure the wait was stressful but I'm glad to hear that you were accepted. Do you start this Fall?
