Why would you give this up??
I am only leaving school nursing to finish my Masters in Nursing Education and we are moving to Florida. Otherwise, I would NEVER EVER give up my job! I will cry buckets of tears when I leave in May. I will miss my wonderful staff, students and nurses I work with in my district.

Today's funny
I have a bathroom in my clinic. I had to go pee. I was getting ready to flush when I heard kids walk into my clinic and say, "She isn't in here...let's go look for her." I never moved. I was like a ninja. They left. Let the game Marco Polo begin!! Also, a kindergartner today asked me if I was an expert of the body and I said, "I think a doctor is more of an expert than a nurse." She yelled out, "I had surgery on my butt!" Perfect! Oy vey.

National Certification for School Nursing NCSN-I passed!
Did you study prior to test (if so what resource?) or rely on previous and current experience to answer questions? Congrats!
-
what do the students call you?
Nurse (First name) Or Doctor (First name) The smaller kiddos will call me Doctor but I don't have the energy or time to correct and explain that I am a Nurse. They all know I'm a nurse but yet some yell out "Doctor!". I'm still waiting on that MD paycheck.

Husband just got into ASN program -- should he pursue it?
Good luck whatever you guys decide!

Help me out here.........
Exactly. Spacer is the key!

My kid is THAT kid
I can look at it both ways because a student does not make it down the clinic without passing it through a teacher.....where is the common sense judgement of our staff? Some days I swear they don't have any.

Withdrawing from a nursing course how could this affect my future
I only have two suggestions: 1. Stop believing you are stupid, stop saying it, stop typing it, stop thinking it. You are sabotaging your own success and using it as an excuse. 2. Focus on the here and now. Focus on getting back into the program. Focus on passing one exam at a time. Focus on why you feel you failed basic fundamentals of nursing. You can do it....if you believe it and want it. Hang in there! I wish you all the best.

Not having kids until 35
I had both my kiddos before I was 21yrs old. My husband (their dad) and I are now empty nesters and we are 44yrs old. LOVE our time together without the kids and we are still young and healthy. If I had a new infant at my age I would not have the energy. Bless those moms out there who do have children over 40yrs old. You rock!

Babysiting the "problem children"
I have never understood why teachers/staff want to send behavioral issues to the clinic. Makes no sense. So, you want a perfectly healthy kid to sit in my clinic next to a kid vomiting, running a temp, or weird rash? Typically, the problem kids are all over the clinic anyways....touching everything...and running around. I have never allowed non-sick kids to sit in my clinic for any length of time.

It's not even 8 am yet (here)...
I feel like a preforming monkey sometimes. Watch me whip...watch me nae nae. Do the stanky leeeggg.....do the stanky leeeggg!!! Thank you I'm here till 3:30.

It's not even 8 am yet (here)...
Our start time is 8:30am. I won't see a kid before then unless it's an emergency. Teachers are not expected to start teaching until 8:30am and I'm not nursing till then either. I need time to actually get to my clinic, unpack all my stuff and get ready for the day. I don't have a problem telling a student to go back to class, get a clinic pass and see me after class starts. Today is 1/2 a day. Thank God. This week has been crappy. Total nonsense going around right now. My patience is almost nonexistent. My first student of this morn said, "I have snot in my throat. I ate Cheerios and now the snot is stuck to the Cheerios in my stomach." Oh, that's great. NEXT! My nursing skills are on point today.

Cough drops
I also got rid of petroleum jelly (still keep a stash) and anti-itch cream. I had a teacher last year send me 60 kids in 2 months just for mosquito bites!! And I was getting every single kid with dry lips or dry nose coming for "chapstick". I was over it! Told my Principal to send out an email letting everyone know that I will no longer carry non-essential items in the nursing clinic such as those two items. If they want to deal with it....go buy some and dispense in your own classroom.

I need some help with an appeal letter.
I have to agree with other posters. Just re-apply like the rest of the new applicants. At least they will know you and if you have a good GPA already with them then they will keep that in mind also. It might help. Good luck!

Cough drops
We do not give out cough drops. I see them as a choking hazard. If you are coughing...inhaling quickly then there is a good chance the cough drop is going down the wrong way and getting lodged. No thanks. My standard line is, "Go drink water or bring a water bottle to school." Water is free out of the fountain if needed. :-)

Anywhere in NY pay school nurses well?
I'm from the South and many districts put nurses on the teacher pay scale so you could start out making $40,000+. Still not great pay.

going back to school
Finished my BSN online with Cumberland University. Wonderful program! They are starting their MSN program up and I have already spoken to the director and I will be a candidate. I plan to specialize in Nursing Education. I do not want bedside care or to be a Nurse Practitioner. No Spank You!
