WOW!! I did ER for many years and that is an unreasonable request from the hospital administration. I would have to resign because I could not abide by there rules. The ED is the first stop for most covid19 patients in the hospital.

I have been a nurse for 18 years and “no I did not sign up for this.” As a society do we expect firemen to run into a burning building without any protective equipment? The point I’m making is I’m not in any position to compromise my health and my families well bring for my job. I have a 9&7 year old at home and I want to see them grow up. I work from home and will continue to do so untill this pandemic goes away.

Dear OP, I feel the same way after18 years in nursing and the various pandemics this is by far the worst. I am newly married and have two young elementary school aged children. I have given so much to nursing over the years. I have to think about my kids they both have asthma and my husband recently quit smoking. I can’t imagine bringing this virus into our home. I would feel so guilty. My heart goes out to my colleagues on the front lines, but I’m going to stay at home and pray for all of you and wait this out. This virus has made me reflect so deeply and see my life flashing right in front of my eyes. I want to be around to raise my kids.

Yes! I have an NPI and DEA. I got it resolved with one of the major pharmacies and will continue to work with the others to hopefully resolve this issue in the near future.

I got my license as a pmhnp In feb 2019 past boards and got DEA around September 2019. It’s now February 2020 I just finished credentialing with the insurance companies but Every time I send a prescription to the pharmacy it says “provider not found” on there end. Has anyone had this problem before? How did you resolve it? Look forward to your guidance. I’m practicing in the state of Georgia.

I’m a Canadian nurse who left Ontario back in 2016. I was not a bee grad, but there are hospitals all over the USA that will take new grads and enroll to in the grad program . Good luck

I will not do it! I don’t see the purpose of this title only. However my mind can only get swayed if the pay was more.

I’m in Georgia and yes you need a collaborative agreement on file with the Georgia composite medical board prior to the DEA issuing a license to you. Additionally the license has to be within the same scope of your practise, for example I practice as a psychiatric nurse practitioner so my agreement is with a psychiatrist. If you are a family nurse practitioner then you need an agreement with a primary care physician.

Well its definitely a big step in the right direction for NP's to be recognized for the work we do.

Great thread OP. I am also doing my clinical in my PMHNP program currently. I also want to start my own business. I was looking at starting a Telepsych business that will be able to treat individuals in various NP friendly states. I am just in the planning stages of my business endeavours. What does this mean exactly you can prescribe can you open up your own clinic like some of the other independent states?

Its a level two community hospital. We see both adults and paediatric clients. We have 90 beds divided into Acute, sub acute and an urgent care area thats open during the daytime hours mostly this area is suppose to treat minor cuts, brushes, fractures etc.

Just curious what the volume you see yearly in your ER. For me we see roughly about 170,000 a year so on average 500 a day. Its the only ER I have worked in so although its busy and chaotic just wanna get an idea of what others see.

You are going to get clinical questions if you get a question where the ask who will you see first, best advise is always think ABC's so you can provide care to the most acute patient fist.

@ OP I would leave. As a person of color myself, I would be scared for my life, the environment from management to your peers seem to hostile. Not the type of place for me. If you are looking for experience have you tired with the staffing agencies in the metropolitan areas to get some experience under your belt. There must be something better out there for you. Wonderful thread!!! Im the mom of a 25 weeker after spending 3.5 months in the NICU with him, I grew to appreciate NICU nurses a great deal, my son will turn 6 this year. I took time off nursing after his birth and recently retuned to work in the ER and also pursue my AGNP, graduating in June 2016. I always wanted to be an NNP but with two small kids I don't think I can balance work and my at home responsibilities, perhaps when my kids are older this may be possible. With that being said are their many opportunities for NNP's or PNP's in the outpatient settings?
