  1. Hi Elzonian, As an Army veteran of many years I am of aware of the skill and absolute dedication that is required to achieve the Army Combat Medical Badge. I was not in the medical field during my service but went to nursing school after I discharged. I have also served as a civilian nurse at Walter Reed caring for wounded soldiers in the IMCU. The medics that I worked with were outstanding especially the ones who had deployed to Iraq and the patients really bonded with them. I have worked at a few VA facilities as a nurse as well. VA patients really appreciate a caregiver who can relate to them. Unfortunately, there are not enough VA nurses who have also served. When I was establishing a rapport with my VA patients I would ask about when and where they served and then tell them a little about my service. It is likely your patients will recognize that you are a veteran before you tell them. Anyway...I want you to know that I see you and thank you for your service!
  2. Yes, yes, yes. Thanks to all of the nurses who have so professionally and eloquently stated the obvious concerns after reviewing the evidence. I was appalled at the ANA statement supporting RV after the verdict. We are all aware of the potential patient safety issues that can occur with short staffing and other adverse workplace conditions. This is not that. How does an ICU nurse not know the generic name for Versed? I don't care what hospital policies are not in place as far as not monitoring a patient . The most important role of the nurse is to advocate for the patient by doing everything to ensure comfort and safety. I have been so sad and disappointed for our profession by all of the uninformed nurses jumping on the RV bandwagon. Again, thank you all for your advocacy. As a COB who hopes to be soon guiding and developing nursing students, you all make me proud of our profession!
  3. Yes, it is called the final salute.
  4. I agree 100%: How was she an ICU nurse and a preceptor? Was she impaired?
  5. I love this. This is the most thoughtful and intelligent comment that I have seen in several days.
  6. Agreed. She gave an interview where she was smiling inappropriately and was quite condescending when referring to the prosecution team. She also used the s word as well as the f word. She is a disgrace to the nursing profession and it seems obvious that many of her supporters have not read the CMS report to know all the details. I am deeply offended by all the comments that state “ It could have happened to any nurse.” Umm, no way. She was a NUERO ICU NURSE. How could she be so negligent?
  7. We have recently administered the Pfizer COVID vaccines and it was a complicated process as far as reconstitution and administration. There were 5 doses per vial and once the vial was reconstituted it was only good for 2 hours. Once it was drawn up into the syringe it had to be given within 30 minutes. We are a government facility and the military came to our facility and reconstituted the vaccine and also drew up the doses and then our staff administered. The doses were carefully counted and recorded and the line was stopped periodically to reassess and make sure no doses were wasted.
  8. No, it is not too late. I am 61 and finishing my second term of an MSN in education. Check out Western Governors University. Regards and best wishes.
  9. I wish that I could be your mentor and support and help you thrive. You sound like a wonderful nurse. Take care.
  10. Typically night differential is 10 percent of hourly rate and weekend differential is 25 percent of hourly rate on Sunday for all shifts,
  11. I am anticipating that it will take me 3 terms. I started in January. Completed RN to BSN at WGU December of 2019 so I am familiar with the structure of WGU.
  12. Recently completed BSN at WGU and have started MSN there as well.
  13. I have just begun the same program at WGU. I have been wondering about the capstone details. Thanks so much and good luck to you.
  14. I actually thought that you were a VA nurse when you mentioned combat vets. VA provides excellent medical and nursing care.
  15. I am thinking of going back to 12hrs shifts, either night or day. I am working mon thru fri 8 hours plus with a one and one half commute home. I am a manager and rarely work just 8 hours. I have worked evenings, nights and weekends and do not get overtime. I will be looking to go back to 12hrs in acute care if things do not change.
  16. Check out Western Governors University. It is 100 percent online and offers MSN edu.
  17. VA was not for me but it does offer the opportunity to transfer and I might even return to the VA if it were San Francisco. There are 2 VA hospitals in the DC area as well as Walter Reed and a few other government facilities where you could transfer after you spend about a year in SF. You are so lucky. Take the VA job in SF . Once you are a government employee you can move around among agencies such as Department of Defense and others. I am excited for you and wish you all the best.
  18. I will soon finish RN to BSN at WGU and plan to continue for MSN. I am 60 years old. WGU is an excellent school and very affordable. To imply that on- line education is inferior is old fashioned thinking.
  19. Actually, the robotic point ,scan, and administer technique has greatly discouraged the critical thinking process related to giving meds in my opinion. I have noticed this in nurses who never given meds pre BCMA. I still have the same process ;the right patient, dose, etc. but I also think about if this med is appropriate and a safe dosage and many other thoughts that occur in my mind simultaneously before I ever use the scanner. So, yeah, the scanner adds another step for me
