I wouldn't bother with nursing, you will be bored and frustrated, cause you have to take care of people whether you think they should be living or not. If you have insatiable curiosity, then you should be pursuing research, and move on to the PhD level in a hard science or medicine, or possibly engineering. With your IQ, you should have already been done with graduate school before you were 30, as my father did when he got his PhD in Chemical Engineering.

My hospital started off with maybe a few PUI's, very few positive cases for the past months, and if there were positives, they were diverted. Now 25% of our unit is COVID+, and the ER has even more holding for beds. But hey, the hero nurses are provided free cookies, and boxed sandwiches that would make a goat puke.

I can't fathom having to endure what this doctor had to do, and being able to maintain one's sanity afterwards. My first experience of ER was as a student at a level 1 trauma facility and seeing 3 patients come in back to back for cardiac arrest, and none of them were able to be revived. It gave me nightmares...and that experience would be a cakewalk compared to what was/is going on in ER's bombarded by Covid-19.

If you were sick for 26 days, did you file FMLA? You need to consult an attorney, and put things down in writing, specifics etc.

This happened to myself and several co-workers on my unit as well as my family in Feb. I want the serology test as well.

Even better advice for those going into the nursing profession, or any profession, is that if you're not sure if it's the field for you, do not make big purchases right away when you start making a paycheck. If you took student loans, you're already in debt, so you don't want to compound yourself with being in a career you might not like combined with further credit card or mortgage debt etc. I already knew what I was getting into to some degree as my mom worked as a CNA/PCT for 30+ years, and I have heard all kinds of amazing and horrific stories. I've been working as a nurse/RN for the past seven years, and plan to keep on going until I die/retire, whether COVID-19 takes me down, or I have a stroke playing bingo some 30 years later.

Glad to hear you're safe! I did 96+ hours and able to get a few days rest before going back. I was getting delirious toward the end and not able to sleep well at all. My apartment is fine and my truck was not flooded so I'm extremely grateful. It's going to be a long process to get out of this mess. Praying no more hurricanes or storms hit...

I'm scheduled to work Saturday and Sunday evening, but I have to report in today as part of Team A, E1 etc. There's already enough nurses for tonight, so I guess it's to make sure there's adequate staff for the weekend. My concern is that the area where I work is prone to flooding during a "regular" storm, and this storm is supposed to keep going through Tuesday or so for the Houston area. As long as the electricity and internet stays up to watch Game of Thrones, I'll be happy (First World problems).

So what if 50% of CRNA's are men. When someone is going to put me under for a procedure, all I care is that they are competent, and not whether they are male or female.

I'm currently in an ADN program, and there are students who are working and have a family, but they are only surviving because they have a really strong work ethic, and time management skills. Considering that half the students make it toward the end to even take the NCLEX, it would be better for the sake of your GPA and/or sanity, depending on which you value more, to concentrate on one subject at a time. You could also complete your Bachelors degree first, and then go for the accelerated BSN later. Either way, you may have to sacrifice another 2 years of your time to get your BSN later.

I bought my book new through Amazon and no code came with it either, just the CD. I wonder if it was supposed to be bundled together with the book like how the code is w/ Kozier's? Since everyone is going to need it, they better give us a group rate, preferably for free.

Finally turned in my paperwork today, and purchased some of the books that I couldn't find off of Amazon. I should have brought a roller, it would have made it easier to manage the 100+ heat index while trekking across campus. I also got a pair of Skechers from Academy yesterday for around $40.

I just hope to get a clinical site that's within a reasonable distance. If it's UTMB, I'll probably have to stay in a hotel since we have to pick a patient the day before.

Anyone else buy raffle tickets for tomorrow? I wanted that nclex book that they were giving away today, I'll probably get it over the weekend to look over.

I guess we're purchasing uniforms and supplies on Friday.

Finished my CPR course today, physical on Monday morning, so I should have everything ready to turn in this week.

Yes, they emailed the physical forms.

Amazing how long the wait was to get the acceptance letters, and now we're scrambling to finish CPR, physicals, immunizations etc. lol I managed to get an earlier doctors appt. in July for a physical, otherwise I had to wait until August 9th. Anyway, I hope they can get a working credit/debit machine for Orientation, and let everyone know before hand if it's just cash or check.

@PharmLUV: Thx for the heads up about the textbooks. So the transition lab kit is for people who already have a stethoscope and pen light? Would you recommend getting a Littman brand? Thanks.

Yep, science and medical based textbooks have always been pricey. I imagine that textbooks are even more expensive for med school and law school.
