  1. The cool thing about this to me is...if yall get in, I will be in your class next May. Im doing the bridge program. ( well if i get accepted).
  2. Not always, they have a ton of people that applied to the LVN program, they had all 3 campuses at one school today going over the final applications. Im sure the RN (ADN) program is doing the same. They have A LOT too. I "think" they also (RN's) have to go through the applications for the bridge program too. They all have been running ragged both programs going through the applications. I know the LVN normally get the official approval letters in May. Thats when I got mine. It will say on letter head, congrats, you were accepted. here are is the other list of things that need to be done before school starts. (its not a lot.)
  3. Are yall talking about LVN program for Navarro who's main campus is in Corsicana? Im just wondering if its the same college. If it is, more than likely you got the acceptance letter of you application to get an application. Im in the LVN program now and we were off today because they were going through all the applications to figure out who was accepted into the program for the 2011-2012 program yr.
  4. I do have a flip side to this. We are fixing start clinicals and our instructors were telling us how we knock on the door and introduce ourselves.... A couple of them told us to say....HI I'm (insert name), I will be your nurse today. I dont feel comfortable saying that. I am not a "Nurse" yet. Im only a student nurse. I dont feel I should say Im a nurse. I should say I'll be your student nurse today.
  5. My school here in Texas we had to have a background check, drug test and a full physical health check. All outof our pocket cost.
  6. My poor husband, hes so proud of me that he brags to everyone he knows and sees..He was telling me about how one of his customers (sales homes), She was an RN and so he bgan bragging about how his wife is in Nursing School to become a....wait for it..... "Licensed Registered Nurse" LOL I about died when I heard that...laughed so hard. Im going for LVN...:rotfl:
  7. We are only 2 weeks into classes. My first block of classes are Fundamentals, vocational concepts, Health Science and Meds Admin. We've had 7 tests so far, my grades so far have been: Fundamentals: Test 1 88% Test 2 86% Voc. Concepts Test 1 90% Health Science Test 1- 84% Test 2 92% Meds Admin Test 1 88% Test 2 85%
  8. I have a friend that is a CNA (nothing against CNA's I understand they are the ones that get shafted in the end) This friend made a comment on how they helped at an accident. They made a comment, Now I really feel like a nurse. At the time I got my acceptance letter to school so I was OFFICIALLY a nursing student. I didnt say anything to this person but took offense to them calling them self a nurse when they hadn't even been through official nursing school. I felt like, you are a nurse Assistant not a nurse. Again I have nothing against CNA's personally i feel they are paid CRAP for what all they have to do!! I don't know about anywhere else but most Cna's around here only get paid like $8-$9 an hour. That is WAY to little!!! I have told my CNA friend if once I graduate if I ever talk down or put down CNA's smack the sh*t out of me because without yall, a lot of jobs wouldn't get done.:bowingpur
  9. Thank you for being nice to us nursing students. I'm a little scared of when we start our clinicals. Ive been told that the nurses will get us to do all their work (within our "student" limits) and that sometimes even the CNA's will use us. I hope that once I graduate I will keep in mind out nervous I was and help out a student when they come to my floor or where ever I'm working. And, I hope that I can build them up.
  10. Student Nurse answered....Hope it helps. :)
  11. We have to have them for school, everyone I talk to (scrubs companies) say that Dickie's lost their license, they are still making and selling them they just aren't in the large amounts they use to. They said that Dickie's is in the works of getting their license back so they can mass produce again.
  12. What I have bought: My required school books, pens, pencils, spirals, bulk size of the "pocket note pads", clip on book tabs, durable tabs, LVN Patches (required), highlighters, Clipboard, white socks, Small bag for meds (personal ie Tylenol..), stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, 2 pen lights Need to buy: 2 sets of scrubs (for clinicals) 1 set of "fun" scrubs, shoes, Create to put in truck to hold my books, overnight bag for spare clothes, under armor, a watch, white lab coat, printer ink, travel size toiletries ie deodorant, mouthwash, tooth brush. T There are more things i need to buy just cant remember.
  13. We get to wear any style of scrubs we want only on fridays when we are in the lab skills other than that we just wear street clothes. The dickies scrubs are for when we are at clinicals. We HAVE to wear our lab coat into the clinical site every time we go no matter what the temp is outside. (dont have to keep wearing it inside just as we're walking in)
  14. Well, we start in just a couple more days....I cant wait!! Do yall have everything you need for class? (supplies wise...). I have to check a couple of my books, I looked at the handbook and the ISBN # isnt the same as whats on the books.
  15. We have to get Navy blue Dickies. Can only be Dickies. And a white lab coat both have to have our patch on the arm.
  16. Im gonna use that idea, couldnt figure out a good perk for school time. In the summer it was the pool and having a friend over or getting to play video games in my living room. I need to tweek the school time rewards. So far the only one is, once they finish homework and chores THEN they may watch tv or play their hand held games...I may do the whole we all get to sit and watch a movie since most of my time will be studying. Will def give us some family time too.
  17. Mine dont always follow it...but it does help. I started mine this summer, only because my 8 yr old HATEs changes in his routine. Another thing I did, for some this is over kill but with an Aspie(asperger's child) its a have to, I put a chore chart in their bathroom that has the chores in writing and a picture to follow. I like the whole chore chart because then they can look and see what they need to do or still have left to do. When I went to my orientation for school my teachers said....get use to the house not being as clean as you'd like or as often. Im trying to get use to that...lol.
  18. I start school on the 30th. My kids start back on the 23rd so that will give a week to finish up last min details. I am so nervous and terrified all at the same time lol. Im excited too, but so nervous. Its like Im a kid about to enter High School for the first time. LOL I keep telling myself just breath every nurse out there has done this and pretty much all the girls in my class (26people) are just as nervous. I keep going over all the things I need for class because i keep feeling like im forgetting something. I have already had several dreams that i walk into class on the first day and dont have any of the books i need my pen doesnt work and my cell phone wont turn off and people keep calling.lol
  19. I have 3 kids full time and 1 every other weekend. I made a "Master" chore list for each child.(ages 13,8,6) It has what time they get up every morning(once school starts) what they are to do once they get home from school all by times. IE 6am wake ...4 homework, chores etc. Then I have a HUGE wall calendar that I put who does what on what day. I have each child in their fav color. Most of the chores are in code but I have on the top of the calendar what each means. I have everything on there, their chores, dr apt.,birthdays, what days to do what laundry, trash day any and everything that everyone in the house will need to know. lol I even put a "how to use" list up any where that needed one. I figure it will be easier for them to use the washer if they know how much soap, softener, dryer sheets oh and how MUCH clothes actually go in the washer. Im hoping that on the weekends I can get in the good deep cleanings. As for bed times Ive had my kids on one since they were little, my mom told me start early. I do have my mom to help watch the kids after school till my husband and I return. I can only have my mom help because I too have a child with Asperger's. (my 8yr old) and he has times when hes hard to handle and others cant tell if its behavior or the Asperger's making him act up. I also am using a crock pot AND making all the meals I can on the weekend and freezing them so they can just pop them in the oven and voila they have a "home cooked" meal.
  20. Thanks!!! I will defiantly try the stores.
  21. I love this thread, I have been thinking of this too. Ive been looking up a lot of good meals to fix ahead of time and freeze so I can just dump them in the crock pot in the morn and have it ready when the kids get home from school. Getting ready to start preparing meals and freezing them. Thanks for the links also!!!
  22. I start nursing school on the 30th of this month. We have to buy our own scrubs and they HAVE to be "Dickies" Navy blue. I'm wondering if there are any scrubs stores closer to this area (waxahachie / Ennis)? I found a couple of stores closer to Mesquite and don't mind driving there if needed. I Know there is a store in Corsicana but they no longer carry Dickies ( which is stupid being the college is just down the road from them...oh well). Any help will be appreciated! Cristy
  23. I start on the 30th. I went through orientation on July 22 & 23. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I have 3 kids full time and 1 every other weekend ages 13,12,8,6. And my husband child #5. Im worried that I wont have enough time in the day. I have already prepaird my family and kids that "mommy wont be able to do things with yall as much" and that "mommy will be in the bedroom studying and needs you to help around the house more". Our instructors told us to just eccept that our houses wont be as clean as we like and dinners may not always be the healthiest choices but we and our families will get through it. I have 4 classes and 2 labs a week for a month in a half then we add in 2 clinical days. Mon & Wed 8a-11.50 Vocational Concepts 1-4.50 Health Science Tues- Thur 8a-11.50 Essentials of Med Administration 1-4.50 Basic Nursing Skills Fri 8a-11.50 Basic Skills Lab 1-4.50 Basic Skills Lab & Med Admin Lab Ugh, how am I going to be able to study all those classes and still find time to eat, sleep, shower and breathe...lol I know I will because millions of nursing students before me have done it.. :chair:
  24. Our schedules are picked for us. We got ours in our orientation. Vocational Concepts Health Science Essentials of Med Admin Basic Nursing Skills Basic skills lab Med Admin Lab * in Oct we start labs Then our total hrs a semester is 18hrs Start date Aug 30.
  25. My classes for LPN start Aug 30th. We can only bring our laptops into the class. Cant have any form of cell phone or PDA's in class or on clinicals. Just going to buy the recommended things and of course the required, till I figure it out more.
