I just wanted to update y'all that in 2022 I came back into healthcare to work in a COVID research facility. A lot of that covid money went on food & beer.

I'm sorry this is happening to y'all. I am witnessing hospital infrastructure collapse and the government is not taking it serious at all.

Well lucky that you live in Cali. California has some of the highest paid CLS in the nation + a union. I've never worked in corelab so my opinion is biased (everyone thinks the machines do all the work). If you can specialize and work in microbiology you will see something new every day. If you live in any other state I would tell the that the pay can vary greatly. There are labs that are paying 4 year BS degree holding CLS less than $16 and you have some that will start off $20+. Not everyone is made to be a nurse. If you are 100% positive that you would hate patient interaction CLS is the way to go.

Not sure how to respond. You know that if there is 2 feet already on the ground you can't drive in it so you will have to call off. But if you know the snow isn't gonna fall till 1 pm and at 6 am the roads are clear you need to go ahead and go on into work.

In my lab we have a voluntary weather team for each department. That person has to be qualified to do everything. If you are on the weather team you need to pack a bag and be prepared to stay. I know in hospitals in my area if you are on-call you will be required to come in before the snow falls and be prepared to stay. I second this! You can go very far with support hoes and comfy shoes + Dr. Sholls insoles. Make sure your toenails are cut! Overgrown toenails can add to the discomfort in shoes.

Oh, one more thing. I keep hearing about how nurses don't even have time to pee. You HAVE to pee. You won't be able to concentrate with a full bladder. You must make time to pee.

How early do you get your schedule? The first off day you have is the day you will spend prepping. Like today is Saturday 2/2. I'm off work Sunday 2/3 and Monday 2/4. I'm going to spend those day preparing for tues-sunday where I will be working doubles.

1. Prepare for the days ahead. You don't want to spend excess time at home cleaning and ironing and cooking. 2. GET PROPER SLEEP! As soon as you get in you need to be hitting the sack. 3. Stay hydrated. I didn't believe this this when I was younger but I notice the difference now. I don't hit that fatigue wall at 12 hours.

recieved a specimen for a fungus culture and when i checked the source it said skin scrapings. they were little black and white pieces and when i held it up to the light i saw that it was full of little worms moving and jumping! i liked to have died it scared the hell out of me. took it to parasitology and when we put one of the little worms on the microscope it had little hairs growing out of it's body! turns out it was not a cup of worms but a cup of larve (they were babies!!!). and the source was correct. it had to be forwarded to another lab because we don't do arthropod ids. #bodyliceftw
