Hello my fellow ER nurses! I work in a level 2 ER in Chicago, lately I have seen more LVAD pts coming in but we don't take care of LVAD pts and I have not had any teaching on them. Does anyone know who offers LVAD classes in Chicago for nurses? Thank you for your help :)

Hello All, I am looking into getting my TNCC/CCRN but I have heard its best to get one first then the other. What certifications do you have and did you get then in any particular order? Thank you for your help.

I had a pt come in for a mosquito bite. We put bacitracin on it and gauze/tape. The pt then wanted bacitracin/gauze/tape to take home. I couldn't believe it. Another pt came in just for a pregnancy test. She peed in a cup, she wasn't pregnant have her d/c papers and that was that. So far those two stick out in my mind but I'm a new grad, so I'm sure I'll have more to come....

Worked for me. Took NCLEX Tuesday, I did the trick 30 minutes after taking the exam and I got the good pop up. I tried it again that same night and I got the good pop up again. I paid for my quick results today, and I passed! You passed too! Congrats RN!! :w00t:

KML 1030, yea waiting is horrible! BUT if you got the good pop up then just wait for them to update your RN status. :) Ortizz184: I used a lot of things to study. I took the Kaplan course and did about 80% of their question bank. I needed more content review so I bought the Saunders NCLEX-RN review book because it goes over the content and quizzes you at the end of each section on what you learned. I also bought the ATI NCLEX App for the iPhone, so every chance I could I would practice questions. I suggest doing a lot of practice questions, I did about 1500 (might be a low number compared to what other people do) by the time I took the exam. I got a lot of SATA, I also got put this in order, select the correct picture, and some math. My exam pretty much had everything. Good Luck, Hope this helps! :)

Hello All, I took the NCLEX exam today, and 30 minutes later I tried the PVT. I got the good pop up.....BUT now I'm wondering if I did the PVT too soon. Do you have to wait a certain amount of time to do the PVT? Thanks in advance for your reply :)

I think so. The last clinical we have is leadership. Where we start off following the nurse and we then have the full patient load. This way we have experience being a nurse. We have to do 120 hours in five weeks which seems like a lot to me.

Hello All, I need help with a nursing diagnosis for my patient. He is a 22 month old boy with thrush who came in the hospital for fever of unknown origin. He had fever off and on since August which his mother was treating at home but brought him in when his fever would not go down. He recently had his tonsils taken out, as well as tubes put in. When I had him as a patient he was still waiting for tests results in regards to his FUO. If you can help that would be great, thank you in advance.

Hello All, I am having the hardest time coming up with a nursing diagnosis for my patient please read and see if you can help 20 y.o pregnant female, estimated gestation 35 weeks and 5 days. previous abortion 10 weeks, had positive RPR went from 1:256 and is currently 1:32. Pt is anemic and verbalized not taking iron medication. Also stated she does not take her prenatal vitamins regularly. Maternal grandmother and grandfather had diabetes 2. Urine analysis was done also results were negative for glucose, and nitrites, trace of protein, and large amount of leukocytes. Non stress test done and revealed no abnormal results. I need two nursing diagnosis and came up with one already: Deficient knowledge r/t lack of adequate nutritional intake aeb pt stating she is not taking her prenatal vitamins consistently or her iron supplement. If you can come up with another nursing diagnosis it would really help. Thank you in advance!!

Do practice NCLEX questions for the class you are taking, look at the success book such as Med-Surg Success: Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking it'll give you practice questions and rationale for every answer. It helped me a lot because it doesn't matter how much you know if you can't answer the questions all the studying is pointless and doing practice questions helps a lot Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!

Nursing school will do that to you. It's because the content is much more dense. Don't focus on reading the whole chapter because patho is SOOOO boring. Focus on what your teacher mentioned in class and what they want you to know.

I'm already exhausted and its our second week. I try and stay positive that I'm almost done and the payoff is near but I'm tired all the time. I think I need caffeine IVPB lol

I prefer to sit in the back. I hate sitting in the front or in the middle.

I feel your pain, I commute to my school which is already an hour away. My clinical is currently 30 min further than my school with a start time of 6:30 so I have to leave my house around 4:30 to make sure I get there on time (you never know b/c of accidents & unexpected traffic jams) and I have to change into scrubs the hospital provides. Once our clinical assignments are made we cannot change them even if someone will switch so I'm stuck. But hopefully it'll pay off in the end.

I feel the same way, I just started my senior year and I keep procrastinating. This is my break from reading community (very boring btw). BUT you are almost there! It is true though only nursing students understand the pain we go through. Everyone I talk to who is not a nursing student does not understand why I am always so stressed, but when I talk to my nursing girls, they understand my pain LOL

I feel your pain, I've come home from an exam feeling good and then I saw the score. What you need to do is review your exam (if it's too late then do that next time) and see were you went wrong, maybe you thought too much about the question or you read it too soon and missed an important part. Also you should do practice questions for the class you are taking. The success books are great because they give you sample questions and give you a rationale for every single option. Don't just focus on reading, take a look at your notes, did you record your lectures? if so listen to those again. Do you have a study partner/group? If so maybe you can quiz each other. Did they give you a blueprint/study guide? Or did they tell you how many questions would come from each chapter? If they did then focus on the chapters where most of the questions will come from. Hope this helps!! Don't give up!!

Same thing for me in my program. BUT if you're in clinical and the nurse is going to put an IV ask if you can do it, they walk you through it step by step. A girl in my clinical group was able to start an IV even though we are technically not going to learn it in the program. Remember be assertive ask to do stuff and you will be given the opportunity to do so. Hope this helps

Congrats! You're a nursing student! When you get to Med-Surg you get more opportunity to do more things. Med-Surg for me is when I started to feel like a nurse. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I would start reading, you don't have to complete it all but atleast get started. Or you could get yourself organzied and start to make your study schedule this way you know what you are doing and when.
