  1. "Too aggressive" it almost sounds like something else is going on here that they are not making you aware of. Sending "thank you" cards is still pretty much standard practice for post interview.
  2. slower paced nursing in long term care?

I worked LTC for a number of years. As for it being slow paced, let's put it this way; I was lucky to get a lunch break once a month. Sometimes I could not even take a pee break without being interrupted. That goes for the 2 to 3 hour morning med pas...
  3. upper chesapeake medical center

In spite of the pay, when I worked there it was a hell hole, and it has gotten worse since I left. It is currently being taken over (or merged with) University of Maryland medical center system, so maybe it will improve. You probably already know thi...
  4. Why are Nurses in MD not organized labor wise?

I wish we were unionized. I have seen Maryland nurses take a lot of abuse from management. I've been thinking of moving to a union state just for that benefit. If you can get a full time job with a county health department, you can be in a union. If ...
  5. Can I get a hard copy of my license thru BON?

The MBON stated several years ago that they will no longer issue hard copy licenses. As stated above, you just have to print out the page from their web site.
  6. 3 Day Phlebotomy training course...can I get a job??

if you want to get a job as a phlebotomist, you will need to take a phlebotomy theory class as well as a clinical. in the clinical you will have to do a certain amount of successful sticks during the course of the clinical (these successful sticks wi...
  7. What is the difference between LPNs and RNs?

    >What is the difference between LPNs and RNs? About $10 an hour.
  8. Can I carry my own pulse ox?

Just make sure it is FDA approved and not the kind they sell at Walgreens (or whereever) for sports use. You can get an FDA approved pulse ox for as low as in the $30 range. Check out Devon.
  9. I've seen this exact same tactic used to get rid of nurses in LTC where I used to work. My suggestion is to document everything, and try to get whatever you can in writing from the DON or ADON. If you are fired, you will have something to present to ...
  10. I need suggestions for a lab kit

I am currently using a small fishing box for my blood draw kit. I'm running out of room in it. Can anyone recommend a good box for a blood draw kit? It has to have a covered top, not like the lab trays that you see in the hospital.
  11. I need suggestions for a lab kit

OK, I went to Dicks Sporting Goods this morning and got the following: Plano Field Box. It is nice and deep. http://www.amazon.com/Plano-1612-Water-Resistant-Field/dp/B000P3WS02 Pop the top of this box and you have a 50 tube holder: http://www.farman...
  12. Salary???

I work for salary, but if I exceed my productivity (based on point system) I get paid per deim for those visits over productivity. I think this is very fair. I also get paid flat rates for any mandatory meetings.
  13. *UNEMPLOYED NURSES*

I was out of steady work for 7 months last year until I found a good job in November.
  14. Nursing Application Photos: Discrimination or Not

I think requiring a picture is a excuse for age discrimination that could never be proven.
  15. <NEW GRAD for a year now, NO JOB!

There is a brand new domain called .jobs http://nurse.jobs/ It supposedly has all the listings even the "pay for" sites have.
  16. Glad they are flooding the market with New Grads...

To be fair, nurses are not the only employees getting the shaft these days. I have friends in other businesses, and they are seeing their benefits get cut, sick days get cut, pay raises get delayed or reduced. The reason is because no one in their ri...
  17. HELP! - Phlebotomy tips needed!!

I am having a very difficult time with phlebotomy also. I am going to register for a phlebotomy course this upcoming semester. I can get my family just fine, but when it comes to my patients, I do not do well. I am very discouraged.

  19. I'm lost, help...

    > I replied, "It was a consensual agreement". (In other words, I wanted to leave and they told me not to let the >screen door hit me in the ***.) That really made me laugh :-)
  20. Bayada?

I am currently well into orientation with Bayada and my initial impression is that it will be a very good experience. 1. Patients per day = 6, unless you are doing a SOC which in that case it would be 5 (assuming you are full time). 2 You will probab...
  21. disappearing nurses notes!

Your in a tough spot. If you file a complaint, the DON can make life really difficult for you. If you don't follow up, your job could be at risk if (years down the road) if it is discovered that you "failed to chart" on something, even though you did...
  22. The "Flirt"

I enjoy being flirted with but I never initiate it, and always make sure it does not go over the line. A saying to live by as a male nurse: "Never dip your pen in the company ink."
  23. employment history conflict, please help!

I would suggest that you find out what there policy is for disclosing whether or not you are eligible for rehire. If they won't tell you over the phone, find out how you can get this information. If you are not eligible for rehire, most facilities ha...
  24. Job hunt frustration

I am currently working agency, but I'm looking for part/full time work. Most places in my area require online applications also. A new trend I have seen is that AFTER the application, they tag on a 5 to 6 page PERSONALITY TEST to the application. And...
  25. In my area hospitals say "BSN preferred" with 2 years experience in whatever position you are applying for. One hospital in my are says "BSN required" for every position. So a new grad BSN is still going to have trouble finding a hospital job.
