Will the nursing shortage ever end?
Seriously...a nursing shortage. I don't know about hospitals in most other states, but the few I have encountered have the problem of short staffage...not nurse shortage. This is not an issue of a nursing shortage. The nurses that are being mandated to work overtime and so on are not suffering due to this so called nursing shortage. I believe this has more to do with the staffing shortage. At least this is the current problem where I am now.

Salary???
Is is good hearing that some places are paying additional for various added work. I had assumed that salary was without extra pay for working beyond the expectation.

Salary for Homecare RN
Does anyone know what Home Health RN's salary starts in NC?
-
Salary???
Thank for the reply. Just trying to figure out now, what an average salary starts?

Salary???
Confused about pay in Home Health. I keep reading about pay per visit vs pay per hour, but what about salary? Does that mean no raises, OT, or other incentives? What is a good salary for a home health nurse? I assume a salaried position means that is it and all for the entire year no matter how much extra time is being put into your work...is this correct? Would salary be different for a weekend only position as opposed to weekday...should it be higher? Please, if anyone can help get me straight on what salary means and what is an average for home health nurses I would soooooo appreciate it.

Trying to decide between New Hanover Med and Brunswick Community Hospital...
please help me! i need information from anyone who works or have worked at these hospitals. how are they staffed on the floors such as how many cna's do they staff per rn and nurse patient ratios. do the staff get along? what shift do you work...how is it different from others? i am thinking that i am going to have to do med-surg. i have never really wanted to do med-surg, but noticed that new hanover has multiple med-surg options. or, so it seems. the oaks also is an interest of mine. i was also thinking maybe i could do ed. how is new hanover's ed staffed? i know that brunswick's is relatively small. if anyone has any information that could help me feel like i am making the right choice...please...help. i am more familiar with small hospitals, unlike new hanover. i think that is what is making this so hard. thanks.

Dialysis nurse considering oncology... again
hello delana_rn, i am currently a dialysis nurse working on an inpatient unit. the unit is small, but we keep very busy. i am going to be relocating soon and have been looking at job prospects. i am so excited to see another dialysis nurse that has oncology experience. when i was in nursing school, i found outpatient oncology interesting and thought i could see myself in that position one day. i never expected to love dialysis, but here i am. i have only inpatient experience though, and only hear horror stories about outpatient dialysis centers. so, in relocating i am trying to keep my options open. i have come across a position with a large hospital where i will be living which has an opening in their outpatient onc. department. what has your experience been in transitioning from one treatment area to the other? i really don't want to go back to floor nursing and i am not having any luck finding another inpatient dialysis job. i appreciate any advice...

Pet Deposit Question...Oh, and Health Insurance.
yes, this is discouraging...i know that when i moved to nc and i checked into living in an apt. it was almost impossible. most of them do have a weight limit on dogs, but i was under the impression that under these circumstances it could be worked out. i am still holding out hope to hear from other successful nurses traveling with big dogs. are these the types of things that recruiters can help with???

Pet Deposit Question...Oh, and Health Insurance.
Thank you for the reply. That sounds awesome! :w00t: I will take another look at RN Network. There are so many details to work out. I am glad I have started doing this now, so I have plenty of time to get it straight. Thanks again!

Pet Deposit Question...Oh, and Health Insurance.
hello! i am trying to navigate my way through all of the companies and their available opportunities right now. i am planning to start travel nursing as a newbie this fall. my husband is enrolled in school online, so he will be able to accompany me...perfect! we also have a dog and two cats. our dog is kind of big. she weighs about 70 pounds. i am curious about what type of housing (and are you stuck in a bad part of town) other nurses are being placed in with pets and the prices of your pet deposits? we are currently renting and plan on placing our belongings in storage. our family all reside nearly 500 miles away, so the pets have to come with us. even if we had family close by that could take care of them, i don't think that i could be separated from them for several weeks at a time. the other topic at this time is in regards to health insurance... i would like to hear your experiences. i am struggling with making a decision. this is very important to us, because my husband does have a pre-existing coniditon that requires expensive medication. i am trying to decide what would be most beneficial to us. he is in great health, but if that would change...i want to know he would be taken care of. i know most of the companies offer additional coverage for spouses. so, who has been given the most affordable price and has the coverage been worth the price???

Bummed...Can I not do travel nursing in the area I currently live?
i still don't understand all of the differences between travel nursing and agency nursing. the way i understand it thus far is that agency nurses are not gauranteed shifts, hours, etc. whereas with travel nursing you have a gauranteed assignment for a length of time where you choose. i have also read that in order for some places to conisider you a traveler, you have to travel at least one hour from your homebase. i don't know if this is true in all cases. if i have this wrong i appologize, but like i said...it is just the way i have understood it. simssn
