  1. And we've seen the lazy and inconsiderate floor nurses who expect us to do everything for them and then scream when they have to do anything no matter how busy we were. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  2. Even before nut singe I've always overlapped jobs. For two weeks to 4 weeks I'd work two full time jobs also gives me a quick out and a fallback if I don't like the new job! Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  3. I didn't buy this (as a student) until I had a student recently say to me "what are the signs of (some obscure disease, can't remember)?" I said "I have no clue, what are they" and she/he was in shock that I, an ER nurse had no clue. Once she told me I remembered and tried explaining that (a) I don't learn by rote memorization, if I saw it I'd remember it and (b) a patient will not always present the way the book says, you have to look at the whole picture. Needless to say, said student kept asking questions over and over- ugh. That's nothing like being in the moment. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  4. Sorry guys :/ thought she was just asking opinions. Someone delete my posts please Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  5. I got 8.6mg of morphine and 10.2 of the atarax just looking up dosage calculations Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  6. I had an interview with a dentist office that I declined. They had RNs in the office to handle sedation and recovery. I've never even given 12 of morphine to an adult though :/ I think that's a lot for a kid!! Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  7. I had to ask our doc last night if this was a fashionable "guy thing" and he said yes. Told him why I asked and he about died laughing!!!! Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  8. I've seen full blown pneumonia stating 97%. You would be wise to CYA and take a quick listen. How long does it take anyway? 30 seconds max to listen for a change???? Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  9. I didn't even post a bad word! LOL Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  10. Of course it let you register for an RN test and sent you to the CC page- it's a different ******* test. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  11. I think they mean no black top with solid black bottoms- all black Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  12. I won't see a pelvic pt for days until I'm the only female nurse in the ER. :/ then there's 10 a shift and I have to chaperone :/. I can look at the schedule and determine when we will get pelvic pain patients. Friday afternoon to evening we get the nursing home mother load. People there hoping for low census I assume. Monday mornings the pulled g-tubes come in- as a result of the low census and overworked remaining staff at said nursing homes I'm assuming. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  13. I prefer to stick what I feel as opposed to what I see. They are sturdier for the most part and less likely to blow. You'll get the hang of it. We have days that even our best can barely get a 22in a thumb and then you hydrate as best you can and look for something bigger. Then you have days where you are contorted, reaching around a firemans leg while be smashed by the doc leaning over you and have only feeling to go by the verbal direction of said fireman when you've got a flash- those are the awesome days. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  14. There are time wasters and then those that just don't know. Time waster: calling 911 and coming in with FD because you have been coughing for two weeks and haven't taken any cough medication. Btw- the parents followed the rig in their car, the adult child who lives at home couldn't be bothered to have his parents drive him so he called FD. Really? Your parents have a car. They followed the rig. They are of suitable driving age. And you couldn't have them bring you? Or the chest pain who calls 911 gets his morphine and signs AMA. This pt had a legit issue, trop was elevated, and left. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  15. I'm a relative new grad---and I got a month and a hog orientation. :/ take it and be happy! Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  16. Life threats at my old place (chest pain, etc) ER cleared first. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  17. Lol! Hubby is a cop, we've been together 8 years! Granted we were both MPs when we met lol Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  18. Completely in touch with reality here, thanks for the concern, but its unwarranted. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  19. Small community hospitals in California will still hire ADNs Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  20. Even while working L&D I had to pay for NRP, so they aren't always paid for. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
  21. Before graduation I had NIHS, ELG CERT and ACLS. immediately after graduation I got PALS and NRP. During my first job (L&D) I got ENPC and just yesterday I got TNCC. I am currently studying for CEN but most likely wont test until January once I have some experience in the ER. Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)
