I work in LTC, and have had many strange things happen. The one that stays with me the most is a resident I had that NEVER came out of her room, for any reason. One night she came running down the hallway, eyes were wild, screaming "the angel of death is in my room, please help me!"It took a looong time to calm her down, and some good old xanax, but when we took her back to her room, she said" oh I'm O.K. now, he apologized to me because he said he had the wrong room".I asked her where he went and she pointed to the room next door.I worked the next night, and didn't think too much more about it, until my tech came running to tell me Mrs. so and so had passed on. It was a resident we weren't really expecting to go at that time. Guess which room she was in? Yup, in the room where my other resident had said the "angel of death" had gone the night before!Still gives me the creeps to think about it!

I lived in Southwest Florida for 25 years. In fact, I graduated LPN school there. We lost our home during Hurricane Charley in 2004( that's another story) and now live in TN. When I left they were beginning to phase out the LPN's in hospital settings, but there were plenty of jobs in LTC and clinical settings. All of my children still live in Port Charlotte, and my kid's send me copies of job openings. I still hold my Fl. license also, just in case.LOL. But one hurricane was enough for me thank you! Hi, I can't give you any advice on RCC, but are you talking about the one in Suffern, New York? I was born and raised in Suffern. Haven't been home in twenty years though. Just good to hear from someone back home. Good luck with school. My sister is an LPN and works at Good Samaritan

If the proper technique is used, a foley insertion is not painful. There will be other times however when a patient is going to feel pain. It comes with the territory.I hope that will not discourage you with your plans. Best of luck to you in sc

In our facility, unless the resident has a ' may self administer' order, it is a BIG NO NO to leave meds at the bedside. I would have had to report her smart little butt for that one alone.If not to the DON,then to at least my unit manager. Just continue to "cya" . She'll shoot herself in the foot soon enough!

There are 4 other night shift nurses in my facility, and 8 techs. We have no idea if administration is doing any thing or not, but my fellow nurses and I have been planning for a month.We got them all tote bags, and filled them with goodies(hand cream, hand sanitizer, etc.)each got a t-shirt that says CNA- compassion in action. I know, I know, a little corny but cute,and a lapel pin. Next week we're bringing in a big spread of food. When all else fails, we all love food! There is absolutely no way I could do my job properly without the techs. I have been blessed with great ones and we want them to know how much we appreciate them.

I love my night shift! Can't handle the drama of day shift. I've worked nights in LTC for 4 yrs. now. I bought some black out curtains for my bedroom, and they work great. I usually stay up on my nights off, do laundry, read allnurses,and our "Wally World" is open 24 hrs. a day. I usually go to bed around noon, and sleep until 7pm.
