  1. the simple solution - cameras furious as you may be, i don't do exhibitionists and if your comfort hinges on lounging around in skimpy clothes in front of workers you asked to come to your home, then you are just that
  2. boy, you sound angry the comparison to the hospital is out of place, unless you feel it's appropriate that visitors come in nightgowns as far as standards are concerned, yes absolutely i expect a standard of decency and appropriate behavior i do not intend nor would i have a way of dictating such, but as you so correctly said i can and will gladly choose another case i was surprised by the intensity of your post so i want to ask do you have any PDN experience (your pro doesn't say so) or you just living up to your screen name (you knew that was coming)
  3. what's wrong with saying i don't pray you can offer to call the Chaplain
  4. nothing wrong with that question i believe it's inappropriate yes i'm a guy, but i believe the key issue is that it's a work place and i expect appropriate dress while you're in the same room or area i'm in, especially since it's at someone's home
  5. wuss there's not enough, 'cause i used it all
  6. I have one, possibly two issues with the situation, but overall, i don't see what the big problem is. my issue is with non paid orientation, that's a no go if mom wants to sleep on the couch, fine, as long as there is proper dress and not a night gown other than that, there is no problem it's a private case, so it's just like any other employer/employee relationship the employer dictates what and how they want stuff done if you like the pay and want the job, then do it with a smile if you don't like the rules, then don't take the job i think it's sad that a parent has to fear for the safety of the child and lose sleep over it and had their trust shattered not once, but several times over i would definitely talk to the mom about stuff such as the chair or whatever seems to be an issue if you cannot have a reasonable conversation with your employer...

yeah that like a family member saying, "oh i borrowed the scissors, they're around somewhere" i carry a pair in my bag
  8. in my area, there is a $3-5/hr difference between minimum wage jobs and jobs requiring certification such as CNA/CMA CNA/CMA jobs are hard work should the minimum wage near CNA/CMA wage, i would expect to see a migration should the minimum wage near $15.00/hr i would expect an even greater migration to include technicians and even LPNs at any rate, at a minimum wage of over $10.00/hr, most current minimum wage workers will be out of jobs, because of migration from higher skill areas

    emergency = scissors
  10. vapid - my new word for the day :) what caliotter said - "i gave the medication without order, "cause Mom does it"

the only thing i can think of is that this is done in an attempt to avoid having the plastic (the back of the velcro strap) touch the skin, but usually the split gauze covers this area anyway do these pt.'s not use trach sponges around the stoma? would be interesting to find out the rationale behind this, because i sure can't think of anything that makes sense either
  12. You are not getting mixed messages the messages you are getting from general forum differ from the messages you are getting from the experts that's not hard to sort out, is it? in my area, there is no agency that would give you even a fraction of the orientation necessary to safely handle a case like the one in question some of the agencies give you some orientation and then have you fill out a competency sheet - if you check off on trach/vent - tag, you're it

does the pt. have the wrong size trach ties? there should be instructions for the particular type the pt. is using, on the plastic packaging or the box personally, i cannot imagine having to use both hands to handle the ties and still stabilize the tube at the same time i had zero trach related training in school
  14. yes, nursing is tougher for guys, because female coworker c/o starter in her car going out she makes these screechy noises to describe the sound i say, "oh, so it's a female starter" another female coworker says, "no, it's annoying, so it's probably a male" yet another female coworker with the sweetest most innocent tone of voice, "no, it's not working so it's definitely a male" we all had a good laugh and there was no denying that was funny right there
  15. oh my I guess I need to change systoly to deliverance
  16. spot on when my guy was in the hospital and i wanted to visit, i called my agency to check if they thought it would be appropriate they said they thought it would be a nice gesture and quite acceptable of course you become attached - one smile from your patient and you're hypnotized my advice, love your patient with all your heart, because when you love someone you'll only want the best for them without regard for your own gratification realize the patient depends on continuous care and no one person can provide this so strive to help build the best team possible and you will have truly done a great service to your patient

parking tickets i've heard of those before - that is one problem we don't have in my area the agency cannot force you to go to any home that is one of the perks of PDN, you decide what assignments to accept they can certainly pressure you or deny you other cases but the choice is yours in the case of bedbugs it's an easy one no job is worth the risk and or expense and by risk i also mean risk to other pt.s not just the nurse
  18. in my own personal experience, no i worked hard and diligently on getting into school i was one of 9 male students of a class of 96 so about 9% males i graduated one of 6 male students of a total of 62 grads the instructors were kind and caring, but did not hesitate to set you straight if needed, no matter who or what you were
  19. I've never heard of a no gloves in hallway policy admittedly, my area is backwoods, but why would you wear gloves unless you're doing something why would you walk out of a residents' room with gloves on when the sink is inside the room we don't have waste or linen containers in the hallway (that's gross) i guess i really don't understand the need for such a policy or what issues it addresses if the purpose of such a policy is to discourage staff from cross contaminating all i can say is, oh my
  20. 30 minutes is a long time when you're hurting and ideally the wait time should be much less, but pain is usually not a medical emergency and we don't know what else was going on the fact that you said the resident kept calling could be an indication that the resident did not report the pain in a timely manner there is also the statement by the nurse about finishing rounds which could indicate this happened at shift change and depending on the acuity on the floor, pain may not take priority over other issues
  21. that font reminds me to go see my eye doc who's been sending me texts and cards for being overdue
  22. i believe working while attending school translates into dropping by at least one grade meaning a straight A student might end up with Bs if she had to work while in school so a student who usually achieves Bs might be in trouble
  23. about the no gloves in the hallway are you kidding me ??? obviously there are facilities with this policy, but does housekeeping not wear gloves when cleaning the hand rails or they just don't get cleaned do all the residents know not to vomit, have incont. episode or get a skin tear in the hallway, let alone fall with a more serious injury about the resident what do you mean the resident is supposed to be in bed at a certain time by whose rule? if the resident wants a shower at 10 pm then give a shower at 10 pm
  24. there is no reason to feel guilty you found out about the situation by accident and in a situation where you have to be observant of strict rules and regulations you wanted to do the right thing and that's what counts you're great aunt surely could have asked to call your grandma or attempt to contact her my only advice, don't go through trials like this on your own if you're not sure, ask for help supervisor, social worker, compliance officer, etc.
  25. i would have loved to sew his pants for him my specialty pant legs sewn shot alternatively, just ask him to drop the pants off right before your shift is over, perhaps he could wait in the room next door or the bathroom and then quickly leave on an emergency call perhaps you could drop his pants off with his wife later on oh the missed possibilities
