Chamberlain FNP 2015 (looking for previous & new students)
I start in May. I completed their RN to BSN a year ago. I tried the brick and mortar route for my FNP and found that sitting in a classroom with a teacher I could barely understand wasn't for me! Good luck to everyone!

Discussing abnormal lab results
Hello All, I would like to preface this post by explaining that I am a RN in a Women's Health Clinic, not a CNM or WHNP. (But I love you guys!) There are times where I am asked to discuss lab results with the patient by the provider. I have no problem doing this, it is my job as a RN to explain things as best I can. I am simply looking for ways to discuss things like abnormal paps without instilling fear into the patient that they have cancer. For example, a patient was found to have an abnormal pap, LSIL HPV +. Recommendation would be a colpo. How would you explain this? I have heard my providers explain it to patients, but I feel that many times they do not understand what they are saying and then they call back seeking more clarification. The patient population that I serve has a very low health literacy and a large amount are high school drop outs. I know with repetition I will find my own language, but I like to see what others have to say. Thank you!

Formatting programs for papers?
Does this program help with setting up headings and subheadings? I don't have problems so much with APA, however I am looking for a template to help with setting up a paper. Would this program help? TIA

My HIPAA dilemma
The first hospitalization she may have consented. The second she was unable to do so. My dilemma is that I knew she was there, and couldn't tell anyone. Just because she ok'd it the first time, doesn't mean she would the second time.

My HIPAA dilemma
I work 35 miles from my home. It's nice because I don't typically run into people I know. A few months ago, my Great Aunt was in the hospital. I didn't know she was there, but a fellow nurse asked me to verify insulin in a room, and it turned out to be hers. She was happy to see me and asked about my kids and my Grandma(they are sisters in law). She said well, tell her I said hi! I told her I can't really do that, but you can call her and let her know that you're here at my hospital! She understood. Long story short, she bounced back and forth from the ICU to getting transferred to a bigger hospital, to subacute. One day I was charging and was called to a situation in the ICU. (At our hospital when a code, trauma etc happens, the Med/Surg charge also attends to help). The situation was my Great Aunt, back and in terrrrrrrrrible condition. It would not be long for her. I wrestled with this for days. All I wanted to do was call my grandma and tell her about her dear sister in law. My grandma did find out-when the children called her and told her that she had passed. I have been sick with guilt. I know I am bound. It doesn't make it any easier. Perhaps my grandma could have said goodbye. Instead, now she is the last one standing from the family. HIPAA has always been pretty black and white for me. This is the first time I lived in that shade of grey.

No More ED Report?
Wow, and I thought I had it bad! We have an issue with admissions at change of shift. We were working on something to change that, but apparently it fell apart. "Well this patient has been down here for 3 hours" holds more than you just walking in the door and trying to get your bearings, let alone your assignment. I can't see how not getting report is safe. There have been times like others where the report I have gotten has been crap-oh yes, Mr Jones is pleasant, alert and orientated and continent...only to get the patient confused, angry, and soiled. Too much can be missed by simply sending off a piece of paper. Questions need to be asked! I hope for your sake, and your patients, this get changed!

Timing aspart insulin after blood sugar check
If it were me, I would retest. Generally I don't like to administer insulin until at the very least their tray has been ordered or has arrived. Because the insulin acts so quickly, I want to ensure that they do eat, especially in the morning when their blood sugars can lower more quickly due to not eating over night.
