As a recent grad I am ready to start applying for some jobs, however I am wondering about many hospitals' online application process. Is this the most professional way to go about this? Should I really copy and paste my resume, or fax one in? Better yet, should I avoid the online process all together and snail mail or hand in a hard copy in person? I know first impressions count and I am trying to land a much-coveted job. I want to do it perfectly!

It has something to do with the fact that there are special loans your parents (rather than yourself) can take out for your schooling if you are in certain programs

Let's see...I think Jbudd covered a lot....maybe a family member acted in a way that made you realize you need to treat them differently? Maybe you did have an epihpany, like...working on such a floor might have caused you to change your view on life...and how is that new view on life going to affect you in the long run?

I usually get the mid-class lazies. After studying hard for the first batch of grades I tend to burn out a little...then after seeing my non-perfect grades I buck up and study hard for the last tests/skills

I used to feel the same way reading these posts! Dont worry, though. It's not as scary as you think its going to be, and you pick up on things quickly!

I assumed (by being told during orientation) that as students we are not to chart on the pts chart, that was for the primary nurse. I thought we would have our own papers to be recording our findings. So, I go to my first clinical today and am told that we will be charting on the pts chart. Does that sound right? Is that what everybody else does? Also, when do you call a code? If your patient looks like they are having a heart attack but they are still relatively alert and breathing, do you call it? I tried asking my instructor about codes today, but she couldnt seem to give me a clear answer....she doesnt even know how to call one at our particular hospital....yikes....it's a telemetry floor Has anybody experienced a code? What did you do, what do you wish you did, and what happened?

Why are you the most awful clinical instructor I could have ever asked for???

If you are unable to assess a certain area, you should be able to document something like "unable to assess due to confusion," just dont leave it blank!

Don't get down on yourself! I'm sure most students make mistakes, you are learning after all. I have found personally that if I am scared I am going to do a poor job, I usually do. You just have to take a deep breath, tell yourself you can do it and nobody is going to hold you back, especially not yourself!

Yes! My husband and I are currently living with my family so we can afford my schooling. I have a very-part time postition as an aide. I feel like I can't go on living with the fam anymore, so I have been looking for a different job that I can work in the evenings.....I dont care what it is...serving, factory-work, whatever! I am shocked at the complete lack of jobs available! There is NOTHING, and I live in a rapidly developing town.

a whirlpool tub! I just can't imagine how relaxing life would be if you took a whirlpool bath every day.

Unless they are high during clinicals, absolutely nothing.

I definitely wouldn't bring a teachers edition to class or show it to any of my fellow students, but I'd definitely be looking over it at home!

So, I've been begrudgingly working through my pre-clinical dosage calculation class without a calculator, as required. It has me wondering, I know as nurses we wont always be able to use a calculator, but is it true that we will NEVER use them??? That's what my instructor would have us believe, but that sounds pretty stupid to me.

No! Absolutely not, how embarrassing! I think the instructor needs to make the decision on whether or not her odor is too foul. If she thinks it is, she can make the necessary actions. It's easier coming from an authority figure than from your peers.

I start my RN clinicals in January at the Lancaster campus! I didn't know the PDA was required. Yikes, nursing is expensive.

I am pretty set on child/adolescent psych, but I wont know for sure till after clinical rotations. I think labor and delivery would be awesome, but I know I'd just cry every time the baby comes out.

Yay! Me too. I am finishing up my application this week. Exciting, isnt it?

I work in a retirement home on a locked unit. The activities department is mediocre to say the least, and a lot of our residents spend a great deal of time each day sitting in their rooms or in the hall not doing much. There are a couple of activity-style rooms with nice tvs, and I like to keep movies playing or the news on so that the residents passing by will go in, be entertained, keep their imaginations active, and feel like they are in a more social setting with the other residents. I also think that just the noise helps, b/c it is such a quiet floor. However, the other morning I had the news on, and our administrator asked me if I could turn the tvs off if nobody was watching, b/c he didn't like the idea of family members thinking we supported them watching tv all the time. Maybe if we had a real activities dept. they wouldn't have to watch tv a lot......but I've found that visiting family members usually smile when they hear me inviting residents to come into the activities room, watch national geographic and have some popcorn. I have to admit I kept "accidentally" keeping the tvs turned on that day. I just can't bring myself to leave no opportunity for the residents to mingle and be connected to the world outside them in order to keep up appearances. What do you think? Tv or no Tv?
