  1. Used this book throughout my nursing program. Excellent!
  2. Congratulations!
  3. I learn more from the questions that I get wrong than the ones I get right. Reading the rationals for why the correct answer is correct and the wrong answers are wrong teach not only content, but test taking strategy. Also, recognize that questions from an NCLEX book may ask about content not covered in NAC I. Don't worry so much about how many you miss as long as you are learning something from the ones you answer incorrectly. M. PS. Just my $0.02 (I was in NAC I last semester), there was not one test question that was not covered in lecture notes. Make sure you UNDERSTAND the concepts covered in class backwards and forwards. If you have questions on something get the number of a SAC tutor and give them a call!
  4. In question #1 it would need to be 40mg in 250ml to get an answer of 18.75ml/hr.
  5. could be the same reason that they won't let me give blood. i was stationed in the uk for more than 6 months in the late 80s. they are worried that i'll give someone cjd. this is from a blood bank web site: [color=#002249][color=#002249]england - cannot donate if spent time that adds up to 3 months or more in the u.k. from 1980-1996 (england, n. ireland, scotland, wales, isle of man, channel islands, gibraltar, falkland islands) europe - cannot donate if spent time that adds up to 5 years or more in european countries since 1980 (including time spent in the uk during 1980-1996)
  6. The last published numbers from the LSBN website is for 2007. Perhaps they are giving you numbers from 2008 or 2009. These would be different from those from the LSBN and correct for their last graduating classes. M
  7. Congrats!
  8. Your allowed to have phones during an exam? If a student were found with a phone during our exams they would get an automatic zero! We are allowed nothing but a pencil and picture ID that must be turned in at the door and picked up from the proctor when we leave.
  9. I use the palm centro smart phone. Have drug book, medical dict., lab values, etc. It also has my calendar on it and I can put mp3s of lectures on it to listen to on the go. M
  10. From the information bulletin: Acceptance letters are mailed by mid December for the next Fall class and by the middle of June for the next Spring class.
  11. Our entire semester takes each test at the same time on the same day from 1330 to 1445. At 1500 we have review. Each test question is projected on the screen with the correct answer and rationals for all answers. We can have nothing with us and are not allowed to say a word. Its a little nerve wreaking watching everyone with one, two, three etc. fingers held up counting up our wrong answers. It is, however, nice to know immediately how you did.
  12. Unless it has recently changed, (like since my husbands last paycheck) they debit your check $24.00 a month for garage parking. M
  13. According to this page on the CSN website: http://www.dcc.edu/campus/charity/admissions/checklist/ , you must have completed the lab for your application package to be considered complete. M
  14. All above are good suggestions. Mine? Go to Walgreens and get a pill splitter, a really good one with a blade. I found I often had to split pills and could NEVER find one at the hospital (My CI carried one with her). Now I have my own! M
  15. A surgical tech is going to gowned and gloved during cases so no worries about exposing tats to patients then. Otherwise, we usually inhabit areas of the hospital where patients aren't wondering around. M
  16. I'm 47 and just finished my first semester of NS. I'm doing way better now than I would have 20 years ago. Go for it! As for the TEAS. This is the test that I had to take for my school as well. ATI sells a study guide that covers all the topics on the test (actually I felt the practice questions were more difficult than the actual test). It is really just basic knowledge, not even on a high school level. I did have to spend time practicing the math as you can't use a calculator and I'd not done long division in AGES! With a little study time you should do fine! M
  17. Meditation .... EVERY morning!
  18. apitslife, My card specifies that I took "BLS for Healthcare Providers". I would call just to confirm that this is the class you are signed up for as there is a BLS class for the lay person that would not be acceptable at CSN. Your probably signed up for the right class, but for peace of mind, I'd call. M
  19. Daytonite, I had bookmarked the post you linked to on this thread. Of course with the new upgrade it just takes me to the AN home page. Could you please reference the thread title or date or search terms that will allow me to find this again? I'm really trying to wrap my head around this material that will be covered in my first week on next semester and was looking forward to cruising these sites. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Wishing you and yours the very best holiday season possible! M P.S. I am going to message Brian to see if they can fix this problem. This was not the only link I'd bookmarked that doesn't work anymore!
  20. Tulane is an AHA training center. My card is from there and no problems w/ CSN this last semester. See http://www.som.tulane.edu/lifesupport/CoursesOffered.htm
  21. I have the Palm Centro phone w/ a 4G SD card (more than a TX). We are allowed to have them in clinical as long as the phone feature is turned off. I've had both Palm and PocketPC devices in the past and I can do everything with the Centro I could do w/ either and having just one device to carry around is amazing. M
  22. Half.com can be great when your transaction proceeds smoothly, however, if something goes wrong you have very little recourse. Back in October I purchased a med-surg textbook from a seller on half.com. They sent me the wrong book so I was forced to purchase at the college bookstore because I didn't have time to wait for the correct book to be shipped. I requested a refund from the seller and sent the book I received back to him (he agreed to a refund of the purchase price but refused to refund shipping - so I was out S&H on both the book I wanted and the one I had to ship back to them). I had paid 91.45 + 3.99 shipping. Several weeks and several emails later I was refunded 79.08! So now I'm out roughly $20.00 for a book that I never received! I have emailed the seller and opened a claim with half.com, but they closed the claim when he refunded the WRONG amount. I will never use half.com again because there is really no protection if anything goes wrong. I'll pay a bit more for my books at a commercial site, but I'll never have to deal with this aggravation again. M
  23. I would answer B. Any reduction in the size of visual field could indicate a retinal detachment. Placing in a supine position and patching (to discourage eye movement) helps to prevent progression of the detachment. I would then, of course, call the physician. B could prevent further loss of vision, but won't hurt if the problem is something else. BTW, I was a Certified Ophthalmic Technician for 16 years before NS. M
  24. I use the Avery #3381 Postcards/Index cards and the Avery Design Pro software you can download from their website. You type your cards and they are printed out 4 to a page. You just tear the microperfs and you have your index cards. M
