Bedside handoff report on mother/baby unit
Hmmm at our hospital couplet care is 24 hrs meaning babies only go to the nursery if there is something wrong or if mom requests it. The mother-baby nurses are responsible for 3-4 couplets every shift. We do report then go to rooms to introduce on coming shift. 2 couplets is a slow day for us!!

Should I stay or should I go?
I think you made a great decision, when I graduated from school a few years ago I graduated in December and could not land a job until April! The market was super tough... that job was on a rehab floor and I did it for 6 months just to have a job... it was not a fun time, I quit to work public health for a bit because the state insurance was nice but when the biggest hospital in our area called offering me a job on the MBU with cross-training opportunities I could not turn it down as its a big stepping stone on to L&D where my heart lies. Anywho... I noticed you stated something about ICU/ER eventually and those are awesome aspirations but remember any nursing job is better than no experience on a resume!!! This floor can be your first step, just like rehab was for me, utilize it and move on if your heart desires... no one will blame you for that. :)

Should I Stay or Should I go?
Well I called and discussed my pregnancy with the manager who was not bothered in the slightest, she said she is planning on offering me the position because I have the experience and drive she is looking for, which was nice to hear. My husband brings in enough income for me to take the 6 weeks without pay, not too much of an issue and the health insurance starts upon hire which is nice and after getting the information from the benefits specialist at the hospital, it compares nicely with my current plan. Although it is more expensive, the pay raise I get working at the hospital still has me making more than my current position which was a surprise to me as I was doing the math lol. So I am pretty sure I will be taking the position as apparently this opportunity is hard to come by according to nurses I've spoken to in the area. Thanks for responding!

Should I Stay or Should I go?
So I am currently 21 weeks pregnant employed by the State doing prenatal/women's services with a great team and OB... my goal over the next 5 years is to attend Frontier and become CNM as I have had a love for babies and moms since I began my health care career 6 years ago, have precepted in L&D/MBU and helped midwives deliver at birth centers, already NRP certified etc... I was recently contacted by the one hospital in the area with NICU, offering me a day shift MBU position with cross-training to L/D/Nursery/NICU, tuition reimbursement after only 30 days on the job, tuition assistance when I begin school later and some amazing opportunity and benefits (besides the health insurance which obviously cannot beat state insurance ). This facility is one of two here that even has Birthing services and the job is hard to come by. They were very interested and pretty much offered me the job the same day, even asking me when the soonest I could attend orientation; just checking my references now. I'm stuck.... Do I stay with the State job, good health insurance and wait for baby and then try to get the position again? Or do I take the offer? I plan on telling them I am pregnant when they call with the official offer and start date however did not tell them in interview as I was very interested to see if my merit was why I was hired or not, keeping my pregnancy from being a distraction to my interviewers was the only way to do that. If I hear any sign of annoyance with this I will not take the job, as I have known both types of managers, those who care or don't care to hire pregnant women, and completely understand both arguments. I have worked to term on an acute rehab unit lifting heavy pts ALL SHIFT so accommodation while I blimp up this time is not an issue...:icon_roll but hiring orienting and then birthing your newly hired nurse might not be likable to some and I completely get that. Anywho... feeling at a cross hairs here...

Still Angry at MAs playing nurse or PA
Instead of jumping to conclusions about what the MA screwed up on just call and ask to speak with the MA regarding who made the decision to decrease the dosage. She may have spoken with the MD over the phone or with another MD who advised her to do so; ask if the decrease was documented and then follow up with the physician at his/her next available appointment to make sure he is aware of the actions that were taken. There is no need to tattle on the MA if the MD authorized this action. If your wife has any future issues with medications maybe you would be more comfortable with her making an appointment instead of calling at her convenience so these "prescribing MAs" can be avoided.

Everest or not? Alternative options! Help PLEASE!!!
me too lol thats why i posted that info. this year Dr. ***** came into all the nursing classrooms in a tizzy about this info being spread that some keiser campuses were not accredited. woo she was mad. she's worked really hard to make sure we are accredited by EVERY nursing body in the state and U.S if possible and she is pretty awesome. She runs all of them from Lakeland... and I am glad to know she is at our campus. She is a wealth of knowledge! I hope she does not go with Everest or any for-profit school that has been open less than 15 years. Keiser has been open 30 and Dr. ***** himself knows about all the goings on at each campus. It was so crazy! We had a student issue toward the end of the year last semester and he was one of the first to know about it and demand something be fixed! I know for-profit schools can be outrageously priced... but we have to remember that they do not recieve any government funding from the feds or tax payers like ourselves. But because Keiser is corporate they do pay A TON of taxes back into Florida and the country. The university really has boosted the Florida economy because it is a Florida school. I am proud to go there... not as proud as I was when I attended FSU! lol but proud still the same. I hope anyone reading these post in search of info on for-profit schools understands the costs but also the rewards GOOD schools can give when a degree is needed faster, as in my situation.

accreditation applies to all the keiser campuses because the curriculums are identical. all keiser campuses have the same accreditations with the exception of those whose nursing programs are still too new to have a graduating class e.g tampa. those have "pending accreditation" that will only become official once grads have taken and passed the nclex with a certain percentage of the entire grad class passing. keiser lakeland is the school listed on the website because dr. *****, who is herself a member of the florida state board of nursing, is the statewide dean of nursing for all keiser campuses. keiser is a good nursing program. expensive but good. however... if you can afford to wait and go to a community college do it. save the money. i am in my second core semester in the asn program at keiser lakeland. i love only having 20 of us in a nursing class... we are personally attended to and no one fails unless they just decide to give up. its expensive but the individual attention is worth it to me. plus i'm in a hurry. lol

RoxyRN I actually got bumped AGAIN and start classes (nursing core) Monday! We just finished a workshop last week focusing primarily on basic math and dosage calculations. It was an easy review week but a necessary one since we are expected to know how to convert between systems when dealing with meds. I am sure you will do great in your gen-eds and I will definitely post again about how fundys and pharm is going. Clinicals start in 2 weeks... super stoked and nervous Talk to ya soon! -K

Help me please,!!! Anatomy I is killing me...!!
I think they just do a drive by of covalent bonds because they make up molecules that make up the compounds within our bodies. Also those bonds affect many processes of our bodies, so they refer back to them later in the class.
