  1. I'm so sorry!!!
  2. Sorry nicrom, I don't have that much info either. I start on Tuesday. Like you said, immunizations, phsyicals, meds, diabetics, add. I'm really excited. JLS, I didn't have any experience either. But in my area, they are in desperate need for nurses (I'm guessing b/c of the pay). They just required 2 years of experience. I would suggest a great, motivated attitude, desire to advocate for the kids, being a team player. I'll keep you in my prayers. Keep us posted!! :)
  3. I'm also from Louisiana and consider Texas to be the West. :)
  4. That was always my worst fear in psych... worse than getting hit!! Being the only nurse in my out-pt clinic it was unavoidable when a pt came in for treatment. Luckily, they were either former pts or very, very casual acquaintances.
  5. what about multiple personality disorders or Malingering??
  6. Hi friend!! I got 265 questions as well. I got only 2-1/2 hours sleep the night before as my little sister decided to go into labor that night. I PASSED. I thank God and consider my little nephew my lucky charm!! Keep us posted!!
  7. At my facility as well we gave our patients 6 cigarettes a day. If pts were "good" some of the other staff would reward them with extra cigs. I did not approve of this and would explain to them why this was not good for our pts as well. I also refused to hand out cigs... it just didn't feel right!!!
  8. I used to dream about working in the hospital all the time. It was draining because not only did I work 12 hours a day but then I dreamt about it for 8 hours. I felt like I was always at work. I haven't worked in the hospital for 2 years now but I still dream about it. I still have nightmares about what I haven't done. I hope I make peace with that part of my life soon!! :)
  9. There was a position at my current company where you could review doctors offices twice a week and the other 3 days you could work from home writing reports!!! How cool would that be?? I applied for it but I think they are gonna start making the nurses report to the office now. That stinks. Oh well... just thought I'd share.
  10. Hey!! I think I can join in here!! I've reviewed charts for almost 4 months now. I too miss my patients, but not necessariliy the work. I do find my job kinda boring...it's a new position so right now I'm left with a lot of down time. But I don't cry about work anymore, I'm not stressed... It is a whole different job.
  11. WOW!! I thought I was the only one!! I failed my first time and when I scheduled it the second time I didn't tell anyone...in case I failed. I passed the same day my little nephew was born. I had 2 hours sleep the night before... I say he's my little lucky charm. But really, I thank God. :)
  12. You have your hospital experience that you can give them. Like you, I HATED hospital work. What I told my employers was that while the hospital wasn't for me it gave me invaluble experience. If THEY are working in a clinic they will usually understand. I wouldn't be ashamed to tell them you like the schedule either. What my employer told me was that she hired me because of my "attitude and willingness to learn and get along well with others". There were a lot more "experienced" nurses that they passed on for a good attitude. I would play that up.... Hope it works out well for ya!!
  13. Why are u declining??
  14. i agree completely!! thankyou!!
  15. I love this thread!! The funny thing is, I regularly get coffee for the two docs I work with. When they first asked me to get it for them I was speechless!!! Just who do they think I am??? But then I realized they could get to work faster if I got it for them :) and then leave just as fast. After a while, it was just a part of the job. I would LOVE to hear about Psych nursing in the 1950's or so!!! I bet that has changed ALOT!!
  16. I failed my first time taking the NCLEX. I passed after taking the Hurst Review. LOVED IT!!!
  17. I actually had a pt describe these symptoms to the psychiatrist that I worked with (in Louisiana). He dx her with Major Depression and anxiety. She never came to our program. I wish now I could've done an assement on her.
  18. My grandpa was Jewish and very ashamed of it. He changed his name from Heimel Epstein so he could get a job in Chicago. The night before he died I was in the hospital room with him. I said a prayer over him "Dear Jesus, please be with my Grandpa, hold him tight, let him know how much you love him and be his peace and comfort." When I finished praying he asked me, "Do you think He heard you??". I told him that I knew Jesus had heard me. My dad was with him when he died the next day. He said that he went peacefully and smiled. I know Jesus took him home and I know that God would move Heaven and hell to let my Grandpa know that he was loved.
  19. I am so very sorry!! I was a psych nurse for 2 years. I had several patients attempt suicide but none that succeded (that I know of). I'm not sure I could've handled it. They say that God won't give you anything you can't bear.... so you are a stronger person than I. God Bless, and I'll keep you in my prayers.
  20. I want to move to San Francsico... let me know if anyone needs a roommate!! :)
  21. oh my!!! .... i think i would be in the hospital after working those shifts!!!!!
  22. I got stuck with a dirty insulin syring too!! Another pt bumped me as I was trying to slide the shield up and I stuck myself in the thumb. I didn't tell anyone until the next day and from what they told me that wasy very WRONG!! I had to get tested... I should've gone back for retesting but we tested the pt and she was negative for HIV, Hep B & C....
  23. I know here in baton rouge pay is not nearly as high. Don't know about Lafeyette... but I doubt it.
  24. I believe it... I'm from BR and we have a lot of nurses who have quit their jobs here to go to NO for the excellent pay.
  25. I'm not new to psych... but I would be new to in-patient psych. And I'm starting to think that Billikin may be right. It's just that right now I'm auditing charts and I'm dying to get back into patient care (never thought I'd say that...)
