ER vs. Telemetry.. need help
I went to the ED after five months on the CDU. Those five months were a wonderful learning experience. With that being said, I think you will be fine going to the ED. However, you have to have a passion for emergency medicine in order to survive there. If you do, GO FOR IT! Another thing, on your days off, you have to study. Yes, it sucks but get the ENA textbook, study your orientation materials and keep a list of questions for your preceptor when you return to work. Keep in mind these four criteria for working in the ED: In no paticular order, 1. Excellant time-management 2. The ability to multi-multi task :chuckle 3. Prioritze and last but not least 4. Anticipate. Another tip, make sure you can manage everything thrown at you in lower acuity rooms before you step in to higher acuity rooms or triage. Also, you have to be strong in your ability to manage a low acuity patient that suddenly takes a turn for the worse. Enjoy the ED!

Anyone wear the Masai Barefoot Technology shoes?
I've been wearing MBT's for about six months. I love them! They are a bit heavy but my legs and back have been almost pain free since I started wearing them. No shoe is perfect but these are the best I've found.

One year anniversary!
My one year anniversary has come and past now. I've been a nurse for one year and I can't even comprehend how much I have learned and grown. I work in at a busy Adult Emergency Dept. that has over 100,000 visits per year. I've experienced so much and every day it seems something new comes through the door. I'm very thankful I had/have such a supportive team around me that took me under their wing and have given me the tools and confidence to deal with numerous situations. This year has come and gone so fast. For anyone that is where I was one year ago...good luck to you, embrace the world of nursing and keep on laughing and smiling. It's all been worth it! :clpty: :clpty:

Are all floor nurses rude to ER nurses?
I just don't get it. When I call the floor, I got out of my way to be friendly, courteous and treat the unit secretary and the receiving RN the way I would want to be treated. When I get to the floor, I greet, smile and ask how their night is going. They still treat me like crap. They barely speak, won't help transfer the patient from the stretcher to bed and won't acknowledge me when I hand the chart off. *** is that all about? You would think they would want to help transfer the patient from the stretcher to the bed...perfect time to assess their skin without having to turn them without help. I get that we = work but come on, the poor attitude doesn't change the situation at all. It only makes it worse.

Does anyone wear MBT shoes?
I have MBT's. I love them! No more leg pain, lower back pain or burning feet. I've worn Nike's, Danskos, Crocs, Merrels and several different orthotics. MBT's surpass them all in quality and comfort. Zappos has some of their new styles. Mine look like sneakers.

Did anyone read the People story about Christina Aguilera?
I don't think you're giving me a hard time...no worries here. My point was that we really don't know fact from fiction when it comes to celebrities and the media. My other point was, over the last year, she's been out of the limelight besides "baby bump" pics. Controversial comments like those in People get people talking and all publicity is good publicity in the eyes of managers and publicists. :nuke:

ASN to BSN online program
LOL! I just realized my post was moved to this forum. I didn't even realize this forum was here! Looks to be lots of threads on the subject...time to search and read! Thanks!

Good point. What a celebrity tells the media may not be the actual story. Besides, she just gave us something to talk about...sounds like she put herself back in the public eye without drinking, doing drugs or putting herself and/or baby at harm, i.e. Britney.

Passing with 265 questions???
I passed with 265 on the first try. I tried to look at every question as an opportunity to prove myself. It totally sucked though. Stay positive!

Is It Wrong to Look at Your Own Medical Info?
My hospital has a zero tolerance policy regarding medical records, even if it is yours. They terminate immediately, no questions asked.

is there anyone out there who took only kaplan for their review materials and pass??
From graduation to test day was 6 weeks. I did between 100 and 150 questions daily with weekends off. Good luck to you!

I used Kaplan exculsively. I chose one review program and made that my primary focus. I skipped the NCLEX review at school because I didn't want to muddy my thinking with any other methodology. I passed the first time and I thank Kaplan for that!

We need to lift eachother up!
During school, I would see instructors tear students down and classmates gossip behind ones back. It was a rare occasion my classmates would actually support eachothers endeavors. Even here on allnurses, I remember when I first started school and was curious about what steth to purchase...a member told me to hold off on buying anything decent because I may fail out my first semester. :icon_roll I do see some excellant support on this board but it doesn't mean anything unless you take that mentality to the floor with you. I was very fortunate to have an excellant preceptor but I observed other preceptors, doing everything they could, to make life hell for the orientee. I'm challenging myself and others to offer support to those who look lost, or those that tore us down in the past. IMO, those that tried to tear us down, are generally the weakest anyway. In the end, the team is strengthened :pumpiron: and the patient benefits.:w00t: It's really time to change the mentality of nurses eating their young.
