  1. Hallelujah - breath of fresh air. Been saying this for ages
  2. Pity you aren't in the UK as I think this could be taken to a Tribunal and would be classed as unfair dismissal.
  3. It is my opinion that peoples health (no matter what their standing) is private unless they wish to share the information. In this case I see no reason why the CEO of Apple should have to reveal and discuss something that is obviously causing him some distress. I wonder that the journalist hasn't turned the thought round and wondered how he/she would feel if it was their health that was being bandied about.
  4. First paycheck? Or first nursing paycheck? My first paycheck was at Woolworths, I was a Saturday girl and I was 15. I received 19s/11d and I bought a bedside lamp. (It was 1969)
  5. I want everyone to feel sorry for me :wink2: I have no nursing ghost stories. All my colleagues have them, but not me - *sigh*
  6. LOL! I have to say, all of the guy comments on here, even the humerous ones, have been remarkably restrained, considering the topic. I didn't find the comments sexist, per se. Most straight guys love the ol' mammaries. Starts when they're babies and lasts until they're 100. Of all the comments on this thread, I found the guys ones the most fun, they have made me really chuckle. Thanks guys. Here's another: An excellent occupation! Any ways you can advise me to suggest successfully to some of my classmates to do this?:roll I for one am not totally appalled (I'm not even a little bit appalled). I am, however, amazed that she is comfortable without one. If it's a good job, and you aren't being victimised, just try a bra. See how you go. Unbelievable!!! Trouble is I can believe it. Tell us what happened - I'm interested.
  7. i suspect that "no-one" is not entirely true ...
  8. just one pencil? oh how remember those days.
  9. I'm so glad that you said that as I have found the same thing and wondered if I was doing it wrong.
  10. Really? Why? (From the UK - sorry)
  11. Knowing that I have made a difference. Unfortunately, in this day and age, it seems that we are fighting beaurocracy in order to treat our patients as people and not some annoyance that has to be shipped out as fast as possible.
  12. Personally I think that I would have rung the doc and asked him if there was anything that he wanted to do as the patients K was 2.6. He could then say that he knew about it or not, but I would rather be shouted at than leave a problem that serious for five hours.
  13. I agree. We also list ALL allergies as this might show a latent allergy related to an existing one. The Dr should have been more specific in his request, but he sounds a bit of a ditz.
  14. Don't understand why they would give you the "look". It's a well documented phenomenon - lots of asthmatics can be allergic to NSAIDS. Here in the UK, Drs will not prescribe NSAIDS if the patient has a history of Asthma, that is unless they have taken them before with no problems
  15. I thought "Squid" was a strange allergy but then I read the posts on here. I do like the ones where the patient says "Penicillin - it makes me sick!"
  16. If you are coming into nursing for the money, let me give you a heads up - DON'T. The money isn't too bad, but the work is hard and stressful, you will earn every penny. I think that you need to investigate a little more thoroughly what the job entails. You could do this by reading some of the posts in the threads on here, perhaps talking to some nurses, or even seeing if there are places that could give you a little practical experience. Nursing is all about people - caring, supporting, nursing, and all the hard work that goes with that. Don't expect any support from management. They have their own agenda
  17. I was working part time. My husband didn't want me working, he wanted me to stay at home, but as he never seemed to have enough money I had to go out to work. Then it was all my money paying for the household bills, including the childcare, but I wasn't allowed to go out with friends etc. We've been divorced nearly twenty years - best day of my life.
  18. As nurses we always have something to do to help patients. It is the hardest thing in the world just to accept that this is the end and that all we can do is let nature take its course. With all the nursing care (keeping her clean, dry and comfortable with mouthcare and suction as necessary) I think the only other thing to do is talk to her and hold her hand.
  19. You took the professionalism of your colleagues seriously and did not disbelieve their reports. When the the true state of the patient was ascertained, you did something about it - strikes me that you have nothing to be ashamed of.
  20. My mum (incredibly wise woman that she was) said about my fiance, "if he is as selfish and unsupportive as he is now, he'll be three times worse when you are married." Guess what .... she was right. I divorced him. Get rid of the git.
  21. Totally Agree
  22. I've just seen your previous post - posted just before mine - and if I had seen that before I had posted, going off sick would have been my advice. You did the right thing, even though there are going to be people who moan, the fact is that you don't want to be spreading whatever it is, and taking a day or two off now may mean you won't have to have a week off later as you would be so much worse.
  23. I love the idea that people are able to care for their loved ones at home, unfortunately I would not be able to look after my dad in that scenario as I have to work full time and I am single. I voted no because no matter how necessary it is, I would still feel that I was failing my loved ones.
  24. I'm always saying if you feel awful then you shouldn't work, but I know that it is difficult when it comes to yourself. Let us know - did you go in and how did you manage if you did?
