  1. Hello, I may have over prepared, but I passed the AANP exam on first try and thought it was way easier than what I was expecting. I read the fitzgerald book as part of my last course which breaks it down by system and then every section has questions after, like total between 100-200 question every body system and then tells you the rationale. I also read the Leik book, which I did mostly the online version or the app, which is basically an ebook but with lots of other perks, like it gives you a tracker type option which lets you input your estimated test date and then it tells you how much you have to do per day to meet you goal, you read on a topic and then get questions after with rationale. I also did a Hollier review, and its nice, not boring, does not make me want to fall asleep and Amelie does a great job of breaking things down so they make sense. Out of all of these I liked the Leik and the Hollier review best, then the fitzgerald book. As for the price, Leik is like $70 and a Hollier review course runs you about $300-500 depending what option you are getting,, and fitzgerald book is like $80-$90. I did all three, looking back and had to choose only one taking price into consideration, then Leik would probably be the one, but I honestly enjoyed all three.
  2. Hi, I agree with you, not fair! We were left hanging by our coworkers when they should’ve had our backs and now they waltz back in and expect everything to go back to normal. The people that stayed with us throughout during the early months which later ran through the Summer until today this pandemic have earned my respect and will always hold a special place in my heart. We went through hell with only each other for support and am grateful because it was during this time that everyone showed their true colors, this was the time I gained many brothers and sisters. I do understand some LOAs may have been justified, but I don’t include among these the nurses posting endless pictures on social media on the multiple outings they had with their families while I was restricting spending time with mine! If you are not mentally strong to take care of your patients, then nursing may not be for you! Now that that is off my chest, the real people to blame is administration that approved these LOAs. This is the same administration that is now turning their backs on the people that stayed and worked the long hours, that went weeks living out of a hotel room without being able to hug our families. Although we really can’t do anything about this, we now know the true character of each person and that will have to do as a consolation prize for the ones that stayed, the true heroes!
  3. Wow, this is news to me, I understand why reassessment is needed, but medications like these that treat chronic conditions and are daily medications should not be required to have reassessment. what is the pain scale going to look like 0/10 before and after medication was given? Really need to rethink if a pain assessment/reassessment is needed for scheduled medications. We do however need the assessment for prn pain medications
  4. Need to be certified in the position you are doing, like phlebotomy or MA and even if you are certified, then hired, you are still expected to follow the highest license that you have. starting out in a less intense environment as an outpatient clinic or a med/surg floor will allow you to get back to the flow of things.
  5. When something goes wrong, like the surgery for instance, people tend to blame then nurses, why didnt the nurse catch this...better question, how did this patient still make it to the OR and allowed to continue the procedure and no one catch this. If the time out procedure was done, but everything in patients chart signaled the wrong site, then the time out was done correctly and allowed procedure to continue
  6. We are suppose to keep busy. I use down time like this to make sure rooms are stocked and if everything seems good and still have time I usually do some online CEU's. If I am not busy, first thing I do is see if I can help my co-workers because they always help me .
  7. Wow... and these people are in power. I have always been pro vaccines and the research is there to back up the effectiveness of them. I understand that it is every parents right to do as they wish with their children, but if you choose to not vaccinate then you are putting other at risk and that is what I do not agree with. Here's another person in public office with no idea of what he is talking about: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2019/02/27/measles-outbreak-anti-vaxx-texas-zedler-wrongly-cites-antibiotics/3001496002/
  8. Have you considered that if you are not happy that you are not utilizing your nursing skills to their fullest, then may be then school nursing may not be for you? I dont mean to come off sounding mean or anything, but it is something to think about.
  9. Now the ADN program teaches you more skill and basic nursing knowledge, and the BSN teaches more about leadership, critical thinking and looking at a patient differently, more of a whole. I agree, in state universities will have a lower cost than out of state. I do not know where you currently live or want to go to school, but I got my BSN through University of Texas Arlington and the price that was advertised for tuition was the actual price that I paid, not a cent more. The price did not include textbooks, but I do not remember ever paying more than $100 for any and you can always buy used or rent the book. I really did learn a great deal from BSN and was not real time consuming. while working full time job and having two kids, I completed it in less than a year.
  10. All these shows, show the "doctors" always doing everything for the patient. When is the last time any one of you guys saw a doctor doing anything for a patient, like giving them a medication, lab draw, or starting an IV. With that said, it doesn't stop me from watching, I have watched Grey's Anatomy since it started.
  11. I do not believe all for profit hospitals are necessarily soul sucking, but I do feel used sometimes by them. We do the hard work and they see all the benefits go straight into their pockets. I do see some for profit places where they do offer extensive training to nurses, but I see this as a part of greater plan and only offer these trainings to benefit more.
  12. This type of behavior needs to be reported and that is the only to get the word out that this behavior will not be tolerated at your facility. I do not know where this incident happened, but in Texas it is a third degree felony.
