Why don't you put something permanently on her record. Go to administration at the school and file a formal complaint for harassment. Also file a complaint with the security dept. at your school. I totally hate it when someone uses handicapped parking spaces illegally also, but since you never know what the handicap is that people have you're better off keeping quiet. She could be removed from your program for harassment. If you feel "guilty" you could give her one more warning that if she continues to harass you, or is creating a hostile work enviornment you will be reporting her. And it seems like you have a witness too.

Put off getting married if it affects your financial aid. Who wants to start a marriage with large loans? So depending on whether you're under your parents financial aid package, your own or will have the mix of you and your new husband, figure out which is most beneficial. Also there is no reason you have to get married and immediately start a family, that can wait.

I'm going to have to agree with some of the above nurses: Get out while the going is good. And don't whine or tell others about your plan. Just start interveiwing and sending out resumes. You have almost a year of ICU experience and that should count for something. Unless you have a contract with them there is no reason to stay. Even if you do have a contract, it sounds like it may be up soon. So start working hard at work, put a smile on your face and butter up the manager, because you might need her as a reference. Then get to stepping.

What is it I missed? It seems to me your Charge Nurse put the knife in your back when she told him she told you to start the induction earlier, that is after she told you to tell him to start it at 0800. Besides, why would you be surprised at a doctor acting like a baby? Just roll with it and it will all pass over. Your co-workers know your skills, why should they be swayed by a doctor acting like a baby? And arent you also talking about him to others? If it persists and gets in the way of your practice write him up and write him up to the head of the OB docs.

Wow what a crock. A win-win for both the schools and the hospitals. I can't believe Kaiser nurses, who are unionized would go for this. And what about student loans starting up 6 months after graduation? Are those payments able to be delayed? What is nursing coming to?

In my hospital we have just instituted a system called CareMobile, which seems very much like the above MAK system with the barcodes. According to the powers that be, it has already cut down on "near misses" or med errors by 50%. I think this is also a way to cut down on drug diversion, although nurses can learn to manipulate any system. It is also supposed to be a time saver, although right now it doesn't seem to be, it just seems like one more piece of heavy equipment we have to carry in our pockets. Oh and it doesn't let LVNs give certain meds they are not licensed to such as IV push drugs or IVPBs.

When you walk in and the night nurse before you says " God bless you because nobody else will!" Then you see one of the other nurses being carried off on a stretcher.

This is how I have been running my life for the last 20+ years. I work two 12 hour shifts per week and make myself available for IHR( in house registry, which is time and a half). I usually pick up one IHR shift per pay period and I could always pick up more if I wanted to. Some weeks I have picked up one or two extra shifts. That is my gravy money. Why am I able to do this? Well it seems they cant figure out how to staff correctly. Or there is always someone calling in sick or something. And I made myself more valuable, by doing things others wont do, such as being in charge, etc. So I get the overtime pay and the charge pay. If you want to get overtime, make yourself more valuable to the unit by learning to do things that others dont want to do, like ACLS. Or taking charge, etc. I have a co-worker that works fulltime and does at least 1-2 extra shifts per week at OT. Thats because she makes herself available. There are some people that wont work any extra shifts, but when they know you like the OT money, they call you first because they know you will show up and be happy to do it. And I have fulltime benefits also. And when I work the OT I accumulate the extra PTO(vacation time). Now the good thing for me about working parttime is I get to be off more days when I WANT to be off. I can take almost 2 weeks off without hardly using any of my PTO. If it's slow, well then I don't get the OT, but usually I manage to pull a day extra if I want to. I just study the schedule and when I see it looks light, I make myself available. So that's the trick, be good at what you do, do things others wont do, and make yourself available. And believe me, I have very decent paychecks.

I just came back from a defunct Mexican cruise, where we ended up going to Victoria and Vancouver. Really liked it there and plan to go back for a longer vacation. It did remind me of the US though, but cleaner.

I dont like it when they take down names. I don't wear my last name on my badge, just my first name. They have no need for my last name. If there is an issue, they can ask for my manager. Have you ever been stalked by a discharged patient? I have, and because I have an unusual last name I was easy to find. Luckily there were no dire consequences.

I fainted as a student waiting for the pt. to get electric shock therapy, while they were putting in the IV! I got right up and was able to see the procedure. The first time I scrubbed on a C Section, when I took my mask off I almost fainted. Turns out I was pregnant, another time during a lady partsl delivery, I almost fainted again, I had to leave the room. Turns out I was pregnant again. My best bet is to stay out of labor and delivery. I keep getting pregnant. lol

I pay about $260/month for HMO insurance through my employer. I also pay $40/ for PPO dentist. Vision is included. This is for a family of three. If I were single the HMO would be free. PPO medical is extra. I am happy to have these benefits and am currently wanting to get my adult child benefits that he will pay for himself as his employer doesnot offer them.

We are supposed to have a 30 minute lunch break and 3 15 minute breaks. But mostly we take the lunch and one 15 in the morning. We get paid double time if we can't get our 30 minute lunch break. And now since it was realized we were to have the third 15 min. break we may all be getting some back pay. I'll take it!!

Tell him at least you will go together. Just kidding. Hey he will like the paychecks, just wait.

I went to a job fair yesterday in Pasadena and the place was crawling with new grads/student nurses. It was pretty sad. Things aren't what they used to be.

I was offered a management position a short time ago also. Two managers had been fired right around Christmas. But when I looked into it I found out I would be making quite a bit less than I'm making now. They didnt even offer me a pay increase and losing the overtime would be devastating. Not even counting the free hours I would have been giving them due to being salaried. I turned it down. Cheapskates!

You should have no problem passing the test. Just go over the test problems in the back of each chapter. I don't think you are getting in too deep!
