We self schedule and are required to work 6 weekend days in a 6 week schedule. Weekends are considered Sat/Sun for day shift and Fri/Sat/Sun for night shift. I work nights and will either do Thurs/Fri/Sat or Sun/Mon/Tues, but not all in one week. One nurse used to work 6 in a row (Thurs-Tues) then he would be off for 8 days.

You said the location of his job and yours would be 3 hrs apart. Why not move somewhere in the middle? That is, if you both don't mind commuting 1.5 hrs.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have malpractice ins (I know-I really should and have been meaning to get some) and my union rep said I wouldn't need it for something like this. I understand no one can give legal advice, I was wondering more if anyone has been in a situation like this before and how it went? Plenty of the other threads on depositions gave lots of info on what to expect, what they might ask, etc., just looking for replies similar to that regarding this type of issue.

Hi everyone. I've read through a few threads regarding depositions but I haven't been able to find some similar to my situation. I have been subpoenaed for a personal appearance by the attorney for the defendant. I had my manager and hospital legal department review it and they said it's not affiliated with the hospital. So I'm on my own there, but they did say I was able to review the chart. The plaintiff is a patient I had almost 3 years ago, and after reviewing my charting, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It was a pretty straightforward admission and no crazy or out of the ordinary interventions had to be done the night I had him. The defendant isn't anyone affiliated with our hospital and after googling his name, it might possibly be an MD in another city (same state). I don't know if the plaintiff moved and sought his services after his discharge and something might have happened then or what. I'm just wondering if anyone can please give me any kind of insight on what to expect.

I've been in the market for a new stethoscope and want to splurge on one of the more pricey ones. I like the all black with rainbow finish but I saw a post in the past where someone said the finish starting fading after about 2 years. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

I think sometimes we do that so we will remember to grab a new bag and have it ready so the tubing doesn't run dry and you end up having to flush out your line instead of just hanging a new bag.

Hello! Congrats on the job! :) I'm a new grad RN and just finished my orientation, which was 6 weeks long (18 shifts). So far I've had 3 shifts on my own. I'm on night shift, so I had 6 days of orientation on days and 12 nights. I would say that I started feeling a little more comfortable with the idea of being on my own around my 8th shift. I was very nervous when orientation was over and I had to actually be on my own. I was afraid of making a mistake or missing something, but it went pretty well overall. I need to work on time management and I know I still have a lot to learn, but I'm lucky because everyone on my unit is really helpful and supportive. It gets better with time, after just the 3 shifts on my own, I'm feeling a lot more comfortable. Good luck! :)

Hi everyone :) I love all the support and information I have gained from AllNurses:redbeathe, I come here every day. Just wanted to let new grads out there know that there is still some hope. I graduated Dec '10 from an ADN program and took and passed my boards Feb '11. I'm sooooo excited to say that after millions of applications (maybe a slight exaggeration) I finally landed an interview and my first RN job! I will be working nights in Progressive Care. I know it will be a challenge, but I'm ready for it

I too live in Cali. Though it will break my heart to leave, I am thinking of moving out of state as well. There are no jobs in Cali. Unless you really know someone or really have your foot in somewhere. My family lives in El Paso and nursing jobs are booming out there, even for new grads. They are even building a new nursing school to meet the demands for nursing. It's because of the population explosion and Ft. Bliss, they need more nurses.
