So I am nearing the end of phase 1 and I was just wondering about proctor's when it comes to distance learning. I was thinking about asking one of my old teachers from my LPN program. I've gone back to the community college to finish up some classes that I am missing.
When you have proctors for the teas v or tests for phase II...are you in the same room with the proctor? I saw something about you and the proctor having to run that one silver something program on your computer but I'm just a little confused how that really all works. Do tell, anyone who does know.

There are specific requirements for a procctor to proctor an exam. ISU has outlined those requirments. Essentially, the proctor must be a company with a office and email address. There are other requirements, but ISU can advise you about them.
Depending on the exam, one or two computers are used. If the proctor is required to log in then that is computer #1. Once the proctor logs in and authorizes you to take the test, you then log in on the procctor's other computer. The proctor stays close to computer #1 because if there is a problem, the proctor receives the notificaton. If the proctor believes that you are not following the rules for the test, the proctor has the option of terminating the exam.
You asked if the proctor needs to be in the same room as the testing student. That seems to be the rationale as allowing the student to be proctored but alone in a room seems to defeat the concept of having proctored exam.
The software required for the ATI exams is provided by ATI on its website. All that has to be done is have ATI check the software on the computer. I believe there are certain software programs that must be loaded on the machine--silverlight is one of them. Without the software programs, the exam cannot be run.
If you have difficulty locating a proctor site, many community colleges/universities will proctor non-enrolled students, and again, some will not. There are private companies and private professional proctors who can monitor your tests. If you have difficulty, do an online search for test proctors or test proctoring companies. There are many companies out there because there are so many online tests now days. Some colleges or companies charge $15 an hour, $25 for an hour or $35 for the entire test. Locating a proctor is not difficult at all when compared to locating a preceptor and clinical location.
Thank you so much for outlining it for me. I was getting confused how this would all work out. I talked to an adviser from my community college and I should be able to have a proctored exam though them. Thank goodness. I was getting worried how I was going to do this. I know it was kind of silly to ask if someone had to be in the room with you, I figured they would but I just wanted to make sure. You know?
Once again, thank you very much for your input. I hope that you have a wonderful rest of the day.
