it's... KILLING me!
I suffer from anxiety issues and I know that's what contributes to the times when I seem to procrastinate the most. I am much better about avoiding procrastinating now than I was 10 years ago (I'm 33 now) however I know it's something I'll probably continue to have to face forever.
I'm scared, I'm constantly beating myself up about poor performances on grades (even when they're still great grades) and it in turn makes me put off tasks that I should be working on fearing that I will mess them up as well. I suppose I could speak to a counselor about this and I might just do that next week, I just know the first thing they'll throw at me are meds again and I just CAN NOT focus on school work with meds. Destressing? winding down? eating healthy? exercising? these are all things I struggle with doing, but need to learn to do in order to keep myself healthy. As a counselor once told me "you can't take care of anyone else, until you learn to take care of yourself" hah little did I know back then that I would be seeking a nursing degree!
I guess my point in making this post is so I know I'm not alone and hopefully can find others who struggle with procrastinating and see if we can encourage each other to take control of our classes and succeed in them.

Procrastinating seems to be a cycle that continues. I guess you can view it as a distraction to not completing your work, or suppose to be studying time. Maybe you could scare yourself with consequences like if I don't finish homework or study then I will have to pile that ontop of housework, etc. for motivation?
You've got many things to do in the future if in NS. It's better now to get into the groove of being busy and using time wisely. if you see yourself procrastinating envision what a long list of stuff you have to do! What a scary thought
Do you use a planner of some sort to write down all your due dates of assignments and what chapters need to read by what date? I think this may help you get settled and know what your schedule looks like. Once you're done you can check it off your list of work to do.

You are not alone!! I also struggle with anxiety and with procrastination. This semester what has worked for me is doing my homework at school. Meaning between classes I have two hours and that meant tutoring or computer lab. On Tuesday and Thursday I only have one class but I get there 40 minutes early and stay about two hours after just to get work done. I find that if I wait until I get home I lose motivation. I am very easily distracted (kids, dog, Hunny, Netflix) so doing work at the school has helped. I write myself notes and try to use a planner. It's just a bonus that if I get stuck there's tutors there to help.
Thank you both for your replies :)
Yes I do use a planner like mad! Sadly the problem I seem to be having isn't my organization in general, I'm a bit OCD in how I like things organized hah. You're SO right though, procrastination is a vicious cycle! I ended up doing zero studying yesterday because of it! I'm still working on my pre-req's right now (will hopefully start in next fall 2015 for NS), so I'd love to get this all figured out before then. If I don't I fear I might not make it!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling (thank you CNAinSD) it's funny you mention that about doing work at school. I do tend to get a lot completed while I am there. I suppose showing up an hour early and staying an hour late each day wouldn't hurt me either. I'll give that a shot and see if it helps!
