Problems finding a job with criminal history??

Published

I am currently in nursing school and I am a little concerned about having troubles potentially finding a job after graduation. I have a misdemeanor minor in consumption of alcohol charge that was dismissed and will hopefully be expunged soon and a misdemeanor drug (marijuana) paraphernalia charge. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they or someone they know has been successful in finding a job after graduation with a criminal history and if you think this would seriously affect me finding a job. Thanks!

Hi, there is hope for finding a job with misdemeanors on your record. It isn't an easy process but it can be done. My state BON has put me under a Consent agreement to even obtain my license and I have to abide by all the conditions. Luckily I have a job, but it isn't ideal. Trying to find a more desirable position has become quite the challenge. My misdemeanors involved alcohol and no drug related charges so thankfully I am not restricted much at work (I can still basically do what is needed for an RN to do, I just cannot be put as charge nurse and do volunteer work). There are a lot of other stipulations that are included with my agreement. My advise is to be honest and up front, it can be done! Good luck!

Just expunge EVERYTHING. It's worth it. I didn't and after I took my NLCEX they held my license until I did.
