Probation or hearing?

Has anyone gone through a hearing and what was the outcome? Did you represent yourself or hire an attorney?  I know its recommended to hire an attorney but thought Id ask if anyone has gone through this? Also, your experience on surrendering your license? And anything else you would like to share.  Thank you.

My situation happened because of a medication error (gross negligence). The patient was not harmed.
