I am currently attending ECC in Buffalo NY and have exhausted all my aid for the school. So now I have to look at private student loans. Can anyone give me any information good and bad about these loans?
Any thoughts?

Private loans, like those from a bank, are based on your credit and ability to pay them back. Most people need a co-signer to get them.
I wouldn't do it. I would look into scholarships first.

hey scottmack,
i am too in this situation. I have a Bachelors degree (non nursing) and am currently enrolled in an ADN program. it is a private school which makes it all the more expensive. I am not eligible for a pell grant, stafford doesn't cover my entire tuition. leaves me about 10k short for the year. I recently was approved for a private loan through wells fargo to cover the additional cost. then again i have to get yet another private loan to help for living expenses. I have dedicated a large amount of time to researching scholarships but nothing has panned out so far. I have a 3.8 going into the program but still nothing is available. As far as male nursing scholarships go I have only found one through the AAMN, which was an essay entry for $500. Needless to say i'm in the hurt locker for cash and feel your pain. I agree with the above post though; look as hard for scholarships as you can, borrow as little as you need and try to squeeze in some work if time allows. Any luck on finding scholarships particular to male nursing students...would be rad to pass that info along. I'm thinking about resorting to groveling and begging myself. Good luck to you.
