I'm guessing what it says is.

What can be done when an unaccredited school is giving international students nursing licenses after graduation that can be transfered to an US license? There is a school that has a RN program that is doing this. The students have class once a week. I think that we should be careful about this because the nurses that graduate from this school might be caring for patients in the hospital.

Here's my answer

Why is the school unaccredited? Is it a new school and the application hasn't been granted for temporary accreditation or did the school loose accreditation? Why would you have to be wary of the nurse who graduates from this program? It doesn't mean that they wouldn't be a good nurse. I believe that if the school's unaccredited this wouldn't even be a problem since the students wouldn't be able to sit for the NCLEX even if they graduated from the program with honors.

My advice would be for anyone who's concerned about a school whether it's accredited or not would be to call the BON for that area and ask questions about what concerns you. International students should do the same because just because the schools say this is all you have to do to get your license doesn't mean that it's the truth. Most of these schools aren't concerned about the education they give but about the money they get from the students that go there. Just do your homework before you apply to these programs because you don't want to end up spending money and wasting time for an education when you'll never be able to ue it.

You do not need to graduate from an NLN accredited school to take the NCLEX. Accreditation is a completely voluntary process on the part of the program. The important thing is, "Are they state board approved?" Any program that is state board approved (and you can usually find this on their website) would allow you sit for the NCLEX. Not all programs currently have accreditation (program is new, cost prohibitive, etc) but this does not mean that graduates cannot take boards.

I always get them mixed up thanks for correcting it.
