Private College vs Community College

Published

Hello, my name is Ryan. I live in the Portland, OR area, and have been doing a lot of research into some LPN programs here for a while. I've realized that now, without completing any pre reqs already, it will take me quite awhile to get into a community college program. That being said, I've been strongly considering going to a private college and doing one of their programs. I'm referencing Sumner College, Pioneer Pacific College, and Concorde College. The reason I'm also considering is because I need to maintain my full time work. It seems as though the only LPN program in my area that can do nights, is PPC. Will going to a private college lower my odds of getting a job afterwards? Are the colleges I listed legit? I realize it's a lot more money, and the credits are non transferable afterwards, but I am fully aware of that. I'm thinking after that I could do a LPN - RN bridge program. But I've also heard of programs that after a year of LPN experience, don't require any pre reqs, and they let you test out of the first year of a BSN.

Anyways, I know it's a lot, but please help me out with any information you have on this topic. Thank you so much for your time.

Employers typically don't care where you went to school, they are interested in the fact that you have a clear license and they want to see what kind of nursing work experience you bring to the table.
