Prison vs. Hospital Nursing--any politics?

Published

I'm awaiting clearance from DOC for a prison job. They are looking for a nursing supervisor 11-7 shift--non union and 3-11 RN's union. My last job I was inappropriately asked to either resign or be terminated. I was so tired of my boss, the politics & the close circle of Yes people on that tiny unit that I just resigned.

It was devestating--first shock, then anger, depression and now resolution. My attendance was perfect & I have a stack of MVP cards to back up my good performance. She wanted me out to make room for a family friend--new grad. I was told I should get a lawyer to show how her tactics were untrue but actually I didn't have it in me. I have now been off almost a month, with no unemployment and have found it almost enjoyable to just putz around, garden, deep clean, etc. I have worked my entire life with the exception of 2 years (kids).

I am a strong believer in things happening for a reason & going through the emotions of losing a job & a paycheck might be worth it in the end.:yeah::smokin:

I am not sure what your question is.

Hi but sorry the politics play out regardless of where you are working. At the present time I am being (in my opinion) railroaded after 16 years of excellent evaluations. In the DOC I work at it's all in who you are never mind how well you do your job. I refuse to lower my standards and become a yes man just for the 'click'. It's the same only the places change. Sorry!

I feel that there might be less politics in a union/state job in a prison than a private hospital on a small psych unit that's looking for press ganey scores with a manager with an associates degree in nursing that trying to prove her worth.

Wow, I was hoping that the DOC system would be better. I'm not looking to be a manager just a staff RN. I'm in my mid 40's, have 10 yrs. of hospital experience & have 2 kids/spouse. Just looking for some money to help with the bills & I love nursing. I hope things work out better for you. Are you a union employee? Good luck.:D
