Hi fellow graduates/job seekers

Like most of you, I've been applying all over my state (MD) for a job as an RN. I sent multiple applications online and most of the time I don't get a reply of any kind or just a rejection letter, Well I just got got one from a recruiter at JHH asking my areas of interest from highest to lowest before they can proceed further with the interview process. I just want a job at this point so i don't know..:confused:how do u suggest I answer this email? what if i say i'm interested in ED and there are no ED position? are they just going to cross me out completely when I would totally take any med-surg or telemetry position:(? also is there a certain format i should use to answer this email? Thx for any any all suggestions

Start by balancing your true interests with your willingness to work in related areas -- and your likelihood of finding jobs in that particular specialty. Then use general headings that will give them a clue as to where your true interests are without shutting you out of other positions that might be available.

For example: "I would be most interested in working on any adult med/surg unit that might have a position available as that would support my long term goal of working in an adult intensive care unit."

...Or ...

1. Adult med/surg

2. Adult ICU

3. ER

etc.

I think you are right in your guess that you will hurt your chances by being too specific in your request, particularly if you request a specialty unit that generally does not hire large numbers of new grads. I would handle that by indicating that the specialty area is your long-term goal but that you would be more than happy with a general med/surg position at this time. Then, if they are looking for new grads in the specialty area, they know you would probably be interested ... but you will also be considered for the general med/surg areas.
