Prescriptive Authority in Colorado

Hi all,

I am a new grad NP living in the state of Colorado. I did an accelerated bridge program out-of-state, where I went straight through my RN to MSN, therefore I have little RN experience.

While applying for all my licenses, I found out that Colorado law states you must have at least 3 years of clinical experience as a nurse (RN or APN) in order to get prescriptive authority.

I'm now struggling to get a job because most employers want NPs who can prescribe - an essential function to any provider. I'm wondering whether anyone else has encountered this problem, and if so, how did you work around it? Some employers seem ok with it, but are asking me how it would work in practice and I'm not sure what to tell them. I want to do things legally. It seems like most options put a huge burden on other providers in the office.

Working as an RN until I hit my 3 year mark or relocating to another state are both not options for me.
