I need help with this. I am going to take the Hesi test in January and I am trying to prepare, but I do not have much info and I would like to know more about this test since there are not many books outside to prepare for this test. I want to know if the A&P part is very specific or if the vocabulary part is difficult. I need some tips in how to prepare for it. I will appreciate any info about it! Thanks

Are you referring to the Dallas County Community College District?

Yes, are you familiar with this test?

There is a study guide available for you to study the ISBN number is 978-1-4160-5635-5. I had the 1st edition study guide when I took the HESI for the first time earlier this year in May, I barely studied for it and made an 86. I'm planning on taking it again in January to make a higher score and decided to by the updated edition to see if it was better and see if I could achieve a higher score. So far, I believe the second edition is better, especially the A&P part. The second edition comes with diagrams and more elaborated sections ont he different systems of the body. The Vocabulary section on test is rather easy in my opinion but I would recommend going over the words in the study guide. The A&P section was specific on some questions and general on others. If I were you, I would go over some of your A&P notes from class, and go over the study guide for both sections. Another thing is to begin studying for it now and not a week before you have the test, that will also help you retain the information. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. By the way, which schools are you applying to for nursing? El Centro or Brookhaven?

You did very well in the test, so if you study more I am pretty sure you will do wonderful! Thanks for the information about the study guide. I just bought it, but I think that it is too simple, so I was wondering if somebody had another alternative. I have been looking everywhere and I have not find anything else. Respect the questions in vocabulary are that similar or the same from the hesi guide? I am a little bit worried about vocabulary because English is my second language and if they put in the test very difficult words I do not think I will do very well in that part. I want to apply to El Centro and Brookhaven just to have more opportunities, since it is so difficult to get into. Did you take Microbiology already? I am taking it in Spring and it is the last class I will take to prepare for the program.

Oh okay, I am applying to both as well. There are other books out there similar to the study guide. I think that is the best option. The HESI test is rather simple stuff within itself. From what I remember about the vocab part, I think that most of the words that I saw in the study guide were on the test. I also took the HESI prep course, which was somewhat helpful. If you study the words in the book, I believe you'll be okay, most of the other words are somwhat common sense because they ask you to put it into a sentence, or they give you a sentence and ask you what a certain word means.

I took Micro this past Spring I'm done with all of my pre-reqs. I'm just taking Pharm, Patho, Dosage Calculations, End of Life Issues this spring for Brookhaven. I figure it will help me for either program I get into. I'm also taking HPRS again since my time limit is up for it since I took it in Fall 07. I made an 'A' the first time, so hopefully I will do it again, its only 2 1/2 weeks long so I have to be on top of things. :D Let me know if you have any questions!KIT

That's so good! you are almost ready. I am not taking anything else bu micro this Spring. I think that micro is too demanding and I want to make an A. I am a full time worker so I do not have much time to take so many classes at the same time. If you get in Brookhaven school you will have an advantage taking so many classes in advance. Good for you! I just finished HPRS and I made an A, so if you took it before I do think you will do just fine. Good luck with you classes and application! Happy New Year!
