What prerequisites did you have to take before you got accepted in the LPN program??:)

My school was a private trade school, so I didn't need to take any prerequisites to be accepted into their LVN program.

My school is a state/community college, fully accredited. If you have any credits from another college or university, those can probably be transferred, if they are within the last 10 years. Everyone takes a placement test just to be a student at the school. Then, depending how well you score on the math and english parts of the test, you register for the recommended math/and or english classes. I did really well on the english portion, even after being out of high school for over 20 years, so I did not have to take any kind of english lit class, everyone takes an english composition class. My math skills were somewhat lacking and I needed a refresher algebra class. Those had to be taken in order to take any of the REAL pre-reqs. Those were: Psychology, choice of Speech or Interpersonal Communication and THEN Anatomy and Physiology I and II (ANP I and II are each one semester). Once you get those finished or during the last ones, you take a computerized entrance test for the LPN program. If you score higher than 25% in all of the categories of the entrance test, the school sends you an application for the LPN school. In re-reading this, it sounds MUCH more difficult than it really is. I can remember just starting to take the beginning test to get into the college, thinking it was going to be FOREVER before I got to nursing school. I can NOT believe that was nearly 2 years ago!!!! The time has FLOWN by!!!

If you really want to do it, you can. If I can, haha, just about anyone can!

I, too, had to take placement tests for English and math skills. I passed them both. Another requirement was to write an essay on a subject that was very important to you. This essay was to be read by the director of nursing and assistant D.O.N. so they could better make their decisions on who to admit into the LVN program. I decided to write my essay on international adoptions. My theme was this question: "Why do American couples adopt internationally when several hundred thousand children are available for adoption in the U.S.?"

The students in my nursing program refered to all the non-nursing classes as prerequisites. That's not really true.

To get into my program I had to have completed HS algebra with a C or better and HS chemistry and biology with a B or better. I also had to take an admission exam which I believe every student has to take. This one didn't make sense to me because I already had a degree from this school. Shortly after taking the admission exam I was told I had to take an algebra assessment exam which threw me for a loop. Hello!! I had four semesters of college calculus they accepted for my other degree program and the algebra in calculus is far more complex than the algebra assessment exam. I also had to write a letter of application which basically was a self-sales pitch on why I should get in.

The bottom line is ask your school as I have found entry requirements to be vague.
