Preparing for the San Diego New Grad Meltdown-Help Me...

Published

Hello All,

Okay, I applied for the new grad program at Sharp (Memorial) ; there were so many applicants, that the nurse manager hired all of the new grads before she got to my app. Times are hard and I have kids to feed. There is no externship program at National U., so we are essentially on our own. I was told to get to know the Nurse Managers; due to my school and kids scheduals, I can only work at night. I am planning to take (and pass) my boards in January and presently work as a Nursing Assistant in the float pool. I am planning to leave Sharp for Alvarado or Paradise Hospital in National City. Does anyone have any advise?

Dont quit your float pool job before you have something else, because at minimum, its income. That's all I can give as I'm in a similar boat, except I already have my license. Good luck and best wishes. Congrats!

Hey Brighella,

Congrats to you, too!!! All of the hard work does pay off in the end!!! I have a little more hope, now. Thanks again for the advise.

I also agree with the advice to keep your current job. Or even try to get a second job doing the same thing for two or more shifts a week to increase your income while you are attempting to get that post-license job. Good luck.

Hey Caliotter3,

Thanks for the advise!!! A second job is a Groovy idea!!! Boy, I don't know where my mind would be without ya'll on allnurses.:yeah:
