Hi,
I am 33 and just found out I am pregnant one month before starting CRNA program. I understand this is not ideal. I was trying to get pregnant for about 2 years, had 4 miscarriages, then got accepted to CRNA program. I have option to defer my seat in the program one year, however given my past history of miscarriage I am not sure I want to do so. If pregnancy goes to term I would be due late April so would be 4 months into clinical at that time. Anyone have any advice or know anyone that was pregnant during the program? Thank you :)

This is just a strangers two cents here so take it with a grain of salt here lol. If I were in your position I would hold off on CRNA school. You can always go to school but it seems like you may or may not be able to successfully have a child. You seem pretty high risk from your past miscarriages and if you add school on top of a pregnancy it could be a disaster. You don't need that kind of stress and should be able to enjoy yourself during that time. Like I said school will always be there regardless of this pregnancy is successful or not and a successful pregnancy may not always be an option for you. Good luck with making your decision and having a healthy baby.

I'm a srna who just started school this summer, and will start clinical work this fall. IMHO, if the University you are attending will allow you to hold up and jump in with next year's class, I would seize that opportunity.
I have a hard time giving this advice as I am a male who only has to deal with this issue in that: my wife and I had our first child before I got accepted. VERY glad that I did not start school until now; baby is 2 y/o and vastly easier to deal with. I was more exhausted the first two days and weeks after the baby was born than the entirety of my intense studying thus far for school.
In your case - again it sounds like less stress is good for you due to your history. Best of luck in your decision making, and in your endeavors in school!

Congrats! I know someone who got pregnant with twins and gave birth during her program. Can't talk about her experience but she is a great preceptor (so she clearly made it through). I had a front loaded program, the didactic is tough and I don't have children...but I know people that had small children and made it through. I wouldn't worry about being pregnant in clinical, wear double lead, make sure to have a good mask seal, no bone cement....etc etc. I've worked around MANY pregnant CRNAs
Biggest question - how is your support system? Do you have family that can help? Friends? daycare that accept EARLY morning drop offs, finances in order...
