Hey, has anyone been in nursing school and been pregnant? I start in the Fall and just found out I'm pregnant...I wondering if I can do it! Also Im probably be due in the middle of the second term, I wonder how that would work out, anybody know...please help!

One of my classmates had not one, but 2 pregnancies during school, so it is do-able. She had to put herself back a semester or so, but managed. You may be on "light duty" in regards to clinical, so be forwarned.

CONGRATULATIONS :) Me, too! I am actually due 3 days after finals week this upcoming semester. I was full of trepidation about it before, but someone said to me - 'you aren't the first; and you won't be the last' - meaning pregnant woman to go through nursing school. When I thought about it in those terms, I realized I was not blazing a trail and there are already standards in place for this sort of thing. Try to enjoy your pregnancy even with the trials of school. I am already finding relaxation techniques helpful and know that they will be invaluable when the 3rd trimester arrives.

Be blessed in this endeavor - best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy!

I have had a few classmates in this situation. They ended up back a semester or speeding their program up to finish in time. Keep in mind that all the prenatal visits will be time-consuming and that you might not always feel well. Also, you will have to be more aware of hazards in clinicals such as chemical and radiation exposure. You may also have to work out something with your clinical instructor so that you have backup when your patients need to be lifted. That being said, based on what my classmates have said it is doable.

I plan on becoming pregnant during graduate school, so I am interested in hearing about others' experiences being pregnant (in either undergraduate or graduate programs).

I was pregnant for the Spring Semester of my senior year. It was a bit rough at times (I was very tired and a bit sick a few times) but overall it was fine. I didn't go to work right after school, so I'm not sure how the rest would go. Just wanted to wish you good luck :)

Thanks for all the encouragement , I was so unsure about it, now I feel like I can pull through it...

Not to cause you to freak out - but I had orientation on Monday for my program and found out this morning (after paying for uniforms, tuition, etc.) that if I am ever put on any restriction during clinicals, I must withdraw from the program. There is some leeway and they are willing to work with me, but that is the policy at our school. I am not sure what to do, but wanted to pass this info along so you could check with your school for their policy :)

Good luck!
