I just finished my fundamentals in nursing and would be starting my clinical this January in two weeks time. I am required to get the chicken pox vaccine since I never had chicken pox as a child and is not immune to the virus. I got the vaccine 7 months ago only for me to find out from my doctor that I am not immune to it. I am pregnant and cannot get a vaccine now as it poses danger to the baby. my doctor has refused to give me a letter stating that I am ready to participate in clinical with no restriction, he wants me to get a letter from the school indicating that its not a problem and I am so afraid as hell because I don't know if my school will allow me to go for clinical because of this. I don't know if anyone has seen a situation as this one, and what came out of it? or if you have any suggestion.
I can't say what your school would do, but we have nurses who aren't immune to chicken pox or have never had them. We avoid giving them anyone with varicella or shingles. It should be fine. Lots of working nurses have this problem.
