Pregnancy and Nursing School????

Posted

Hi everyone,

I am so confused again!!! I am starting my first year of nursing this September. My daughter is almost 3 years old and me and my husband don't know what to do. We have been wanting another baby so many times and keep changing our minds because I just don't know If I can go to nursing school and be pregnant at the same time. And then have a 2 month old and a 4 year old and nursing. We just don't want to wait till I am done with School because she will be almost 6 by then.

My First pregnancy was really easy I was not sick at all and gained only 20 pounds and I only weigh 106. I also breast fed her for 5 months.

Were any of you pregnant or raising a baby while going to nursing school. Were you still able to do well in school and alowed to do clinicals, any bad reactions from other students.

So far I did well in school I transfered with a 3.55 GPA.

Please let me know what you think.

It will be hard of course, but its not like nursing school is that easy to begin with!

We have had 3 girls get pregnant and deliver so far in nursing school, and we are just entering our second (and LAST- YAY) year, and all three are still with us and doing fine. Two that I know of are breastfeeding. They take a pump and breastmilk cooler to clinical and pump every few hours. Most of the instructors are incredibly understanding.

However, you can only do whats right for you and your family.

Good luck.

I sure hope it can be done. I applied to nursing school two years ago and got accepted and then found out I was pregnant, so I withdrew. I applied again for this year, and once again, found out I was pregnant. This time I wasn't going to let it defer me. I am starting school on Monday. I am due November 29. The school seems willing to work with me about missing classes and all. Now this wasn't planned, but what can you do. I wasn't going to put going back to school on hold again, because I was afraid I wouldn't go back after the second one.

I am not sure if I would purposely get pregnant during nursing school. I already have a bachelor's degree, so I have a lot of classes done and only have to take a lighter load. I know it is going to be hard. My biggest fear is I will miss out on a lot, but it would be the same situation if I was working.

Overall, it is your decision. I completely understand you wanting to have your children closer together. If you choose to wait until after school, know my brothers are 6 and 11 years older than me and all worked out fine. If you do choose to get pregnant know, I believe if you want to do something bad enough, you will. Know that school is going to be more difficult and ou will have less time. If you are willing to accept this and still work hard because nursing is what you want to do, then you will do it. My only other advice is to make sure your husband is willing to help you out and know he will have to make sacrifices too to help you with a new baby while you are in school.

I hope all turns out well for you.
