preceptorship options

I am approaching the end of third semester and in the fourth and final semester we choose what area we want to have for our preceptorship. Many students in my class had the opportunity to go to the ER, OR or wound care, ICU, PICU etc. in their clinical rotations, but I did not have those opportunities, due to luck of the draw. I am now trying to get an ideas of what those areas consist of with as much detail as possible. That way I can make the best decision about which direction I can go. Any input from students who have already done their preceptorship would be much appreciated.

Thanks

What do you think you are interested in? If there is a specialty you think you want to work in, I suggest trying out that specialty. For the last 3 years, I thought I wanted to go into ICU right after graduation. I loved my ICU rotation, and thought I could just go for it. But, I did my preceptorship in ICU and realized that the ICU is very overwhelming, and I need to work up to the ICU instead of going right into it. Anyway, just my opinion.
