Precepting in postpartum

Hi all! I'll be precepting in postpartum this semester. I'd like to work either in PP or L&D, either would be fine (though eventually L&D, since I plan to be a CNM/WHNP). I have lactation experience as a lactation specialist, worked for a year at a freestanding birth center, and did well through our PP rotation. I'm REALLY excited to get started! Also, the NM, who knew me in med/surg, helped me get this preceptorship, and is basically seeing how I do for a job, it would appear. So I wanted to ask, any tidbits of advice? I feel pretty confident going in, and that I'm humble enough to know when to ask for help and where my own limitations are. But any random advice would be appreciated!

    Go with your gut, always. If ANY doubt about ANYTHING, ask a seasoned OB nurse to lay eyes/hands on the patient. Still don't have a good feeling? Get another one.

    Make sure you're up-to-date on current standards of practice. Dr's aren't always right or have all the answers. You may be the only protection that patient has from the doc.

    Most important, LOVE, LOVE LOVE! Compassion is a must in our wonderful field of OB nursing :)

    So far it's going well, and definitely confirming (not that I needed confirmation) that OB nursing is what I love! :)
