Pre-Specialty Entry Vanderbilt

Published

Hello,

Does anyone know of other programs that are similar and give the same flexibility as Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty? The way I understand this is that the student only needs to be on campus the first year. I do not have any nursing experience or degree in nursing. I have a BS in geology. However, I am in the process of completing my prerequisites.

Not all specialties at Vanderbilt give you that option, so be sure you're looking at the right ones!

If you absolutely need flexibility in your specialty year, have you considered doing an Accelerated BSN program and then doing an online Masters degree? ABSNs are also usually geared towards people with non-nursing bachelor's degrees, and doing ABSN+Masters is often about the same time length as a direct-entry program (although Vanderbilt is particularly short). Is your need for flexibility more about location or time or something else?

Hi,

I am located in Colorado and will apply to two accelerated nursing programs here. In order to have options I have been searching for other programs that might fit my needs. Having grown up in TN, i started looking at programs there. Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty program seemed to be a good fit. I don't want to be away from Colorado, but if I have to TN would be my obvious choice. The fact I could finish the RN part of the program in one year and then be free to do the graduate years at other locations seemed practical for me. I Also like the idea of apply to a program one time instead of having to apply for the RN portion and the reapply for the MS portion. Thank you so much for answering.

I think Western University of Health Sciences in Pamona, CA has the same format-first year on campus, and MSN years done online. Hope this helps! :)
