I have reached the limits of my endurence! I have been applying to colleges all around my area to continue my education and obtain my RN degree. I have been accepted at 2 colleges who then informed me the courses I need to take are full, but, I can take fun classes until next year when an opening occurs. The killer was when I was told that in order to get into an A & P class (a pre-requisit for the RN class) I had to take a pre-requisit Chemistry class. I am not so young anymore, I hope to retire in 10 years. I really don't want to spend the next 4 years taking classes (that are a waste of time) so that I can finally enter the RN course.
I think I'll go into cullinary classes, or, maybe just take an astronomy class and spend my time looking at the stars. I understand that there is a shortage of teaching Nurses out there, but do the colleges really have to make it this much more difficult just to qualify for a simple A & P course???
I had to take Cell Biology and Chemistry before being allowed to register for A & P. IMO, you really ought to have that foundation to be really successful in A & P. I know, it sure does take a lot of time, doesn't it? I always laugh when people think an ADN/ASN is a "2 year degree". Good Luck!

I had to do the same thing - take chemistry before the other sciences. I just knocked out other classes that didn't need pre-reques. I think intermediate algebra before chem. is rediculous. Here is what I did:
Semester 1: chem, english 1A, sociology, PE
Semester 2: A&P 1, speech, PE, Psycology
Semester 3: A&P 2, Phylosophy, Med dose calculations, Critical Thinking
Semester 4: Micro, Intermediate Algebra (this coming fall)
(critical thinking and other classes I have taken are not required, but took them so they were out of the way towards a BSN)
If you go full time, you can knock some out faster. I believe you can take A&P 2 with Micro in the same semester so you don't have to wait as long. Here is another example of how you an arrange it if you like to make it shorter:
(pre-requisite math class during the summer before the fall)
Semester 1: chem, english, soc, pe, psych.
Semester 2: A&P 1, speech, Phyl., PE.
Semester 3: A&P2, Micro, Intermeidate Algebra
if you want to get it done even faster:
Fall 2008: math, enlish, soc, pe, psych.
wintermester: Chemistry
Spring 2009: A&P1, speech, Hummanities, PE.
Summer 2009: A&P2 if you think you can handle it
Fall 2009: Micro, Intermediate Algebra, any nursing support classes you may find interesting like Intro to Med Dosages, and A&P2 if you didn't take it during summer.
This one would take just over a year. Start Fall 2008 and finish Fall 2009!
Sounds like time is of the essence for you, so maybe an LVN program would be better. Good Luck.
