Pre-Requisites Anyone?

Published

Hi, I am somewhat confused regarding pre-requisites. I hear sooooo many people on these boards talking about having to take ALL pre-reqs before they can even take nursing courses or even apply to schools. My college is very different from what I am reading. I am enrolled f/t right now. I took an extra semester (in Spring) to take Intro. to Sociology, Intro. to Psych, literature elective, bioethics, and english. I was told that I had to have a minimum of 12 credits each semester in order to retain my 'spot' in the f/t program. So all the other incoming students in the fall are going to be taking the following courses: Nursing Fundamentals, english, intro. to soc., anatomy & phys I, english, and a first year study seminar. The pre-reqs are built into our f/t Nursing program, they are not done BEFORE entry. Is my school the only one who does this?

Its the same here with completing the full two years. The original program (after the prereqs) is 17 classes (45 credit hours) and 13 credit hours of clinicals over a two year four semester period. With the prereqs its 72 credit hours not to mention the 4 credit hours of Biology, and the remedial Algebra I had to take first. When I enter I will only need 9 classes (21 credit hours), and 13 hours of clinicals, but they will still make me go the full two years.

Thanks, coolpeach! I finally found at least one other student on the boards who works like my program. Yes, we also have 72 credit hours and also must go the two whole years, 4 semesters. It is nice to know that you're in the same type of program as I am. The only thing is that I was not able to do all the pre-reqs first, so I will be taking 12 or more credits per semester. But the good news is that I do have a slightly smaller courseload thanks to the fact that I went that one semester. But, when it is all said and done, I ended up going to school for 2 1/2 yrs.

2bnurse...

Your better off than me LOL. When its all said and done assuming I get in when I apply in Aug it will have taken me 5 1/2 years.

I spent 3 1/2 years taking the prereqs, biology, and remedial algebra for a total of 38 credit hours. In addition I took a couple of filler classes to for my Bach (P.E., Computer etc). If I make the cut in Aug then I will spend another 2 years in the nursing program.

THIS IS TAKING FOREVER!!!!!!
