This is my first post - I am very new to this, but would appreciate some advice.
I am very keen to attend nursing school, and I have all of the admissions requirements (the high school, the class rank, the SATs etc) that Mountainside School of Nursing asks for. I wanted to complete my pre reqs over a couple of years, and then apply ot do their nursing program over a further two years.
I assumed that if I went to a CC and enrolled in the pre reqs (I was going to start with A&P 1 alone as it has ben a long time since I have studied for anything!), that I could just take them, get the credits and then apply to Mountainside. I just looked at Essex CC and it seems that I would need pre reqs (it says strongly recommended) for the A & P 1 class. I don't understand because I do meet all the requirements for Mountainside (and that means I could apply to do a four year program there and do the pre reqs then the nursing - not an option for me this year though as I am too late so I would have to miss a whole year of studying). My question is, will a CC let me pay to take a class (I have a degree already) even though I don't have the pre reqs for that class? I am so confused. I want to be a nurse so much, but I am not sure I can put more than four years into it!
Did anyone else have my situation? Did you need to take classes just to take the pre reqs for nursing, or was a high school (and non related degree) enough?
Any advice much appreciated!
Thank you.

hmm I am currently taking Anatomy and Phys 1 at essex county, I also have a degree and my only science courses from that degree was BIO 101-102 and Chemistry, I did not have any trouble regstiering for Anatomy and phys. I imagine you won't either, I believe there are no pre-reqs for ana and phys. "Strongly recommended" is not the same as a pre-req, if the Anatomy and Phys has no pre-req then apply for it
Thank you. I worry about starting all these pre reqs (which I think will take two years) and then not getting into nursing school. How many classes at CC do people normally take together? I figure I may as well spread it out and take two years as I think one year of cramming in too many classes could be a disaster!
Full time students usually go 3-4 classes about 12-15 credits. Id say take as many as you feel comfortable with but I would not spend more than 2 years on pre-reqs. If you are thinking of doing the nursing program at essex you only need 3 classes, Eng 101, Chemistry and Anatomy and phys 1-that should take 1 or 2 semsters, then apply to their ADN program
I am hoping to do the Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing program. I need to talk to them about what I can use from my existing degree, but from what I understand I need to take A&P I and II, Micro, Chem (organic, inorganic, biochem), Eng Comp I and II (which I never did at college for my degree). I haven't studied for years and years (been a full time mom) so I don't think I want to do it all in a year. I am thinking I'll do those in 2 years and go straight into the nursing program, which is two years, just doing the nursing courses. I really want to do well in my pre reqs so I figure if I pace myself I should be okay. How is the A & P I? I have read so much scary stuff about it!
AnP can be tough because there is simply a lot of material however as with most things it will depend on the teacher. I would avoid a Lisa Marie Moore-she is my current teacher. We started out with 30 students and we are now down to 8, she is actually quite proud of that. Other teachers I can't say, just avoid moore
