Pre and postoperative pharmacological guidelines

Hi! I was wondering if anybody could help me out - I'm an FNP student and I'm working on a case study that involves antibiotic prophylaxis for surgical wounds. I was wondering if anyone had any links or info for what might include pre and postoperative pharmacological guidelines to prevent surgical wound infections?

I have utilized several journal search engines such as CINAHL and PubMed and have looked in surgical textbooks and so far, all I can find are wound prep suggestions, the wound classification system (clean, dirty, etc.), and which pathogens would be possible infective sources.

I guess what I want to know is are there any specific written guidelines out there other than what I have found; and does it sound like I am on the right track?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide! :wink2:

And, you might find something here. You may need to sign up to read the links. It is free.

And, you can always check the CDC:
