Please Help: Recommend a Micro book

Published

I am self-teaching microbiology and need something to study from! Please let me know if you have something basic, and well written to recommend.

If someone wants to sell me something, I would probably buy it!

I ordered a basic micro-coloring book by Alcamo/Elson for supplement help, it goes over bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and multi-cellular parasites. It descibes their basic structure, physiology, biochemistry, cultivation and pathology of microbial disease and the mechanisms of non specific and immune resistance exhibited by the body.

I ordered from http://www.amazon.com . There are a lot of micro text to choose from, and many come with study guides and CD roms.

I'm using Microbiology for the Health Sciences by Jensen, Wright and Robison. So far, it seems like an ok book. I'm a little dissapointed in the pictures - a little low-budget for the cost of the book, but the writing seems clear.

Microbiology: Principals and Explorations by Black is a pretty good book. Very simple to follow - I used it for my micro class, but I've already sold it. I liked it much better than my A&P book which was Hole's Human Anatomy and Physiology. Ugghhh....that book was torture - had HUGE holes that you were just expected to fill in the blanks and contradicted itself. It was a bad book.

Good luck with Micro.
