Students Pre-Nursing

I am thinking about going to school to become an RN but I'm not sure if it's the right time. My daughter is 6yrs old and I'm afraid of missing out on school functions because I'll be studying all the time. Should I wait until she gets older? Also, some local hospitals just had some layoffs and that is weighing in on my decision too. Any thoughts?

I had a lot of classmates who were moms to children less than 10. It's doable. As for the next part of your question, if you should pursue it now in your area, that depends. There isn't a nursing shortage in the major cities; there's a higher need in areas a lot of people usually don't think about moving to.

Thanks.....I just worry that I'm not going to have a lot of time once I start. It makes me feel better to know that other moms of young kids have been able to do it. I'm hoping that by the time I'm finishing up (2yrs) that the job market will open up again. I think a lot of the hospitals are cutting costs right now and not filling open positions in anticipation of the affordable care act coming into full swing.
